Soul of Brooklyn Week returning this month (includes a free show w/ Shabazz Palaces & THEESatisfaction)
During the week of August 17-25, MoCADA and Soul of Brooklyn will be presenting Soul of Brooklyn Week 2013, celebrating “African Diasporan arts and culture while promoting partnerships between local arts organizations and black businesses in Brooklyn.”
One of the big highlights of the week is the free kickoff concert on August 17 at Cuyler Gore Park (Greene Ave and Fulton St) with avant-hip hop crew Shabazz Palaces and their collaborators/Sub Pop labelmates THEESatisfaction. That show runs from 2-7 PM, and again, it’s totally free.
THEESatisfaction will also host the “Black Weirdo” party at Littlefield on August 23, which features music from OC Note, Mursi Layne, and Chocolate Chuck. Tickets for that party are on sale now.
And to wrap up the week, on August 25, Soul of Brooklyn is teaming up with Afro-Punk (whose Afro-Punk Festival concludes that same day) for a block party by Commodore Barry Park at Flushing Ave and Navy St. That runs from 1-8 PM with DJ sets from Rich Medina, Prince Paul, CX KIDTRONIK, and Mursi Layne.
