Blink-182

Tickets are going on presale today for blink-182's intimate benefit shows happening in the NYC-area before the Riot Fests.

The most intimate one happens in Brooklyn on September 11 at Music Hall of Williamsburg, and tickets for that one go on AmEx presale today at noon. All proceeds will benefit "burn treatment centers, plus research and treatment for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases." And since we last spoke, Brooklyn indie rockers DIIV were added to this one.

And tickets for their larger (but still small for their standards) show in NJ at Starland Ballroom (9/10) go on AmEx presale today at 9 AM. Proceeds from this one will support "Sandy Relief as well as cancer and diabetes research and treatment." You may remember that Starland Ballroom recently reopened after facing damages from Sandy.

AMEX presale was yesterday for Starland, and it sold out in seconds. Today looks just to be an internet presale, maybe a code needed. Haven't seen anything yet,

How's there 44 tickets on stubhub already for MHOW show?

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:14 AM

They don't need to have the tickets to sell them on stubhub. If they're unable to get tickets today they can cancel the sale within 48 hours with no penalty.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:22 AM

8:14, what 8:22 said is true. Brokers will sometimes put up listings on speculation. One of the reasons for this, is so that they can gauge the demand to how many tickets they should stock up on, inventory-wise.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:31 AM

why would a talent like DIIV be added to this slop? granted Travis has ridiculous skills and the band has sold millions, but this pairing makes no sense.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:32 AM

Also, 8:14, if you take a look at any of those listings, you'll see that none of them will deliver the tickets until a few days before the show. That's because they are betting that the street value of the tickets may go down as the show approaches.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:38 AM

8:32, it's called "marketing". People judge you by the company you keep. They pick a cool opening band, to make themselves still seem cool.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:39 AM

@8:32 wouldn't call DIIV "a talent" lol

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 8:45 AM

@832am if it wasn't for blink 182, diiv wouldn't exist!

Easily just pulled two for Starland..

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 10:01 AM

Why would anyone want to go to Starland. That place is a dump hole.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 10:43 AM

@ 10:43 Starland is just about done w a complete overhaul of the building. new sound, new design, new everything due to sandy. should become one of the best venues on the east coast. now if they could start booking bands relevant to this decade we would be in business.

damn, was in at 12 on the dot and got shut out!

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 12:03 PM

I was there at 12 no tickets. I guess because I'm not a scalper or an authorized reseller of Bowery Presents?

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 12:11 PM

yea this is some bs...imagine tomorrow will be exact same thing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 12:13 PM

Tomorrow will be easier but not much easier. There were probably very few tickets offered today in the presale. Oh and since tickets are not being delivered right away, there are no hard tickets being sold at Mercury or Music Hall box office tomorrow fyi.

I wish they'd shut down StubHub so these fucking scalpers would have to leave mom's basement and look people in the eye as they fuck them out of hundreds of dollars.

Total capacity: 550
Band/promoter guest list: 50
# of tickets for AMEX: 50
# of tickets for tomorrow: 350
# of tickets held back by Bowery Presents to sell it on Stubhub: 100

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 12:31 PM

# of tickets that end up getting scalped: 550

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2013 12:41 PM

12:31

Bowery Presents is so sleazy holding back tickets to their own shows.

Fuck AMEX card holders.

Only a freeloading bum accepts a guestlist spot on a fucking benefit.

Thankfully DIIV is the local band opener not Crown Of Thornz.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 4:34 AM

814 and 836 blatantly the same person

319 means organizers at venue, bookers, etc - without them the benefit would not happen, so deal with the 50 spots they're keeping.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 8:34 AM

@12:22 Who is the "they" that would shut down Stubhub? lol

Ticket reselling is legal in most states. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. Very simple.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 9:32 AM

"I wish they'd shut down StubHub so these fucking scalpers would have to leave mom's basement and look people in the eye as they fuck them out of hundreds of dollars."

Never once has anyone said anything to me while I'm bringing them inside a will-call only show; they're usually ecstatic that they secured a legitimate spot, and not upset about spending the money. They never seem pissed; no one has ever told me off after I've let them inside or done anything along those lines.

Most like to vent and complain about scalpers anonymously online when they don't get tickets, but the truth is that if we didn't exist, and you didn't get tickets to a show, then you would have no outlet through which to see them. People are usually grateful that they were able to find a way into the event, and don't care about the price.

Posted by scalper x | August 16, 2013 9:38 AM

"If we didn't exist, and you didn't get tickets to a show, then you would have no outlet through which to see them"

You're correct that a secondary ticket market is necessary. But if you weren't a soulless pussy, you'd charge face value. Any system that allows leeches like you to purchase tickets with absolutely no intention of attending a show for the sole purpose of selling for a profit is broken.

You can say what you want about the situation being simple supply and demand, and fair enough. But I can also say that you're a fucking coward that's exploiting peoples' interests to make money.

10:11 you forgot to mention that the whole reason why most people can't get tickets to a show is because the SCALPERS BOUGHT ALL OF THEM INSTEAD. so they're basically creating a bad situation and then claiming to be its savior.

No, you still probably wouldn't get tickets (because you suck at getting tickets), so you'd just get shut out of the show and have no way to get in, since there is no secondary market. Scalpers disappearing doesn't mean you will magically get one of the extra 100 tickets released, you most likely would not.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 12:05 PM

I don't see how it's cowardly to escort someone into a concert and then take money from them for doing so. If anything, it's cowardly if that person is feeling anger over the situation and never expresses it to me (which has never, ever happened).

Sometimes I do intend on attending the show, but usually the ridiculous price that some FiDi person will pay outweighs my interest, because I understand the value of money relative to my desire to see a 1 hour concert.

Posted by scalper x | August 16, 2013 12:10 PM

Guys look for my Craigslist ad going up in about 20 minutes. Sorry I know this is gonna hurt but you know you can't miss this show. I'm gonna be taking bids but obviously I will not be selling for anything less than 400 per ticket.

Good Luck and Happy Bidding.

"You're correct that a secondary ticket market is necessary. But if you weren't a soulless pussy, you'd charge face value."

cool, do you have any 1997-era Google stock that I can buy for 'face value?'

if you sell a high-value ticket for face value on the secondary market, you're being an idiot, not a hero - you're probably giving it to some complete douche; really. a complainer; someone who expects to get things for cheaper than they are worth, etc. i've tried the face value approach before; i found that i had to weed through tens if not hundreds of people emailing me before i found someone who actually seemed worthy of the cheap ticket.

it's like when people offer you face value for a ticket you know is worth triple that and not budging on price; it just comes across as them being a stubborn vag and not embracing that they do not have tickets to the fucking show, and might have to pay extra because people selling tickets on the internet aren't your friends and don't care about taking your money.

Wow DIIV you got some set of balls to write that.

How 'bout you drop off the show instead of dickride/jock Blink's crowd?

You're not fans of the band yet you want to play in front of their fans, which means you should be fans cuz if you weren't you'd be sitting around watching Totally '80s and Totally Ignoring taking a cue from that REAL music not that wannabe 1990-93 shoegaze shit you're farting out. 'Way to use Blink to get ahead, huh, DIIV?

Better yet, email Blink's management and booking agent and tell both you're not fans of Blink 182 and see how fast you're kicked off the bill for being arrogant pricks not cuz you're not fans, but because you think you'd get away with playing with them.

Btw your band is overrated, overhyped wannabe early '90s shoegaze shit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 3:09 PM

2:37pm

Actually, I wrote that in the hopes that DIIV would be kicked off the show and my all-time, absolute favorite hardcore bands Kid Dynamite and Crown Of Thornz open the show. That way COT fans can kill KD fans, maybe Lord Ezec beats down Dan Yemin (Semen) as a bonus, and both bands will break up from the lawsuits.

What if a member of DIIV actually posted here? The poster's comments were strange. First off he said DIIV was asked to play when I doubt it as who the FUCK are they to be asked to play? Try their booking agent asked DIIV onto the show, what else? You think Blink 182 asks bands to open for them, especially newjacks from NYC who formed in 2011 or 2012 or some shit who have ZERO connection to Blink 182's scene? Get a clue. Second why would a non-member come on here and say DIIV were asked to play and say "we're not fans"? No one has come on here to say a member of DIIV DIDN'T write that (or refute what I posted.)

I wouldn't be surprised if a member of DIIV posted that because he'd bank on you fucking morons who automatically dismiss the possibility, and if you think for ONE SECOND band people don't come on here to talk shit anonymously, think again, they do.

You peabrains actually think band people don't post in here? If so hahahaha.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2013 4:21 PM

Yes, this is actually Devin from DIIV. I don't think that other post was was Cole though. I'm the only one who's willing to lurk the comments on BV. I can't speak for anyone else in the band, but I did listen to Blink 182 in middle school. Carousel was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar/bass. Pretty sure Mark and their manager wanted us on the bill since they're fans. We didn't have to suck anyone's genitals to get on. I don't think anyone is even getting paid for the gig since its a benefit.

Not going to lie, I live for all the negative comments that get showered upon our band but I cant stand when people don't have their facts straight. We were never trying to do a shoegaze revival thing. We're all more influenced by kraut rock if anything. You'd understand if you came out to a show for once, instead of trolling BV and /vg/ for once.

Posted by Serpent | August 18, 2013 5:25 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2013 7:46 PM

Oh so it IS Devin from DIIV huh? Hahaha. Ok why don't you tell Blink 182's manager you personally are not a fan of Blink 182 and see if they let you use their draw (audience) to get your band more/new ears. Literally email him "Hey so you know I'm not a fan of Blink 182 but thanks for letting us open for them" and see what he says/does. I'd kick your band off the show in a heartbeat.

How DID Diiv, a band with NO connection to the punk scene whatsoever - you haven't played a single punk show in/around NYC - get on this show with all the bands from in/around NYC who have busted it longer than you? You don't deserve this show AT ALL.

You "live for negative comments that get showered upon (your) band" yet you call me a troll, I love it.

You come off like a alternadouche using another band's audience and another scene you're not and never was or will be a part of to get an audience.

Correction: One internet ass now rolls his eyes at me (you 9:17.)

Devin from Diiv email Blink 182's manager and tell him x amount of Diiv members if not the entire band are not fans of Blink 182. Also let him know you felt the need to tell everyone this in the comments section of a BV entry about a benefit show they're playing and have asked Diiv to play via their manager (a show I hope you're kicked off of soon) and then admitted you did so only after I called you out. Go ahead.

Posted by D | August 18, 2013 9:54 PM

D,

One internet ass hole doesn't roll their eyes at you. It is any person that reads your comments on a regular basis. Also, why would DIIV cancel a show because you think they weren't involved in that scene. Its stupid as shit, and a band like that would allow for a tremendous amount of exposure.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2013 10:09 PM

DIIV turned their backs on hardcore.

I once had a few beers, listened to records, and then ate hummus with the guys from DIIV. We talked about NYCHC for a really long time and how they were influenced by it. They said if it wasn't for NYCHC they wouldn't be where they are today.

Posted by Giorgio Moroder | August 18, 2013 11:53 PM

So..

are you talking about 4chan's video game board with the mention of /vg/?

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 9:48 AM

You speak for yourself 10:09pm.

I didn't say Diiv should cancel a show - learn to read - I said Diiv should email Blink 182's manager and tell him they're not fans of Blink 182. Why not? What's the big deal? What are they afraid of? Are they afraid? Of being kicked off the show if they did that (emailed Blink's manager)?

I'm saying Diiv don't deserve the show, and they don't. They've been around for a little over a year or got it in gear with shows only over the last year. They'd be nowhere without Creation Records as their record label and Ground Control Touring as their booking agency. They are nothing more than another propped up new New York band who comes from nowhere/nothing like Cerebral Ballzy who get shows with Refused, Flag etc. only because they're on Adult Swim's record label William Street Records and booked by The Agency Group.

Right, Diiv is playing this show to jock Blink 182's crowd, using Blink 182 to get a new audience, thanks for pointing out their motivation to play it. That is your motivation, right Devin/Diiv? Time for you to be honest and say that - say it here. Say you're using Blink 182 to get ahead, since you're not fans of them.

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 10:59 AM

D - what exactly is your problem? 'I can't speak for anyone else in the band, but I did listen to Blink 182 in middle school. Carousel was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar/bass.'

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 11:14 AM

My problem is you won't email Paul Rosenberg the manager for Blink 182 and tell him you are not fans of Blink 182 when you should tell him so he can replace Diiv with a band who would fully appreciate playing a show with Blink 182. You won't do this, of course, because you want to use Blink's audience to gain new fans. You're phonies and btw I'm pretty sure Blink aren't fans of Diiv and are letting you play because their manager likes you guys.

Big fucking deal you listened to Blink 182 in middle school. Is that supposed to be your punk/street cred or something? LOL

Stick to being a boring indie rock band who wishes they were a shoegaze band now that I think of it.

Btw I know it is entirely possible that you are posing as Devin and/or someone else in Diiv since you're another Anonymouse, but I'll humor you.

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 11:19 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 12:07 PM

D if you went to NYHC shows in the 80's like you claim you're 40+ or pretty damn close.

This is some sad shit dude.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 12:12 PM

Also D has the dumbest logic ever. He wants a band to decline playing a show with the potential of huge exposure because he thinks they aren't punk enough. That would be like the Talking Heads not playing at CBGB because they were such a different music style.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 12:35 PM

The weird thing about D is that he is like 40+ and has these moronic concepts.

It's not that Diiv isn't "punk enough", they're not punk PERIOD.

Diiv isn't a punk band or fans of Blink 182 yet they're playing a show with Blink 182, a prized show slot - HUH???

Their appearance on the Blink 182 show smacks of nepotism, pay to play, industry quid pro quo, any two, or all three.

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 1:06 PM

^you ARE 40+ you nut. It's not 'material'. You're too old for this shit D.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 1:17 PM

Dude, Blink 182 isn't a punk band. My sides are gone at this point. Besides, I basically admitted that I did like them a lot when I was younger (recently revisited Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, which I believed to had been their best album that wasn't the early stuff. It didn't age well. There are still some choice tracks on there though, if you want to call them that). Have you listened to the other band that's on the bill, D? Maybe theyre much more your thing. We're fucking first of 3, so just don't come early.

Posted by Serpent | August 19, 2013 1:24 PM

1) Who knew D had such repressed love for "What's My Age Again?"

2) I wrote the D - what exactly is your problem comment and I was just wondering - I'm not Serpent or in the band.

3) Diamanda Bynes is the reference of the week.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 1:53 PM

1:17pm And your point? How old are you? Certainly a grown and obviously unemployed adult with a cyberhardon for me and a hangup about age. Sad.

Serpent - Dude, Blink 182 is a punk band, I don't have to listen to the other bands on the bill, I doubt any of them are my thing, and they can't be "more my thing" since Diiv isn't my thing. Btw who the fuck are you to say what is and isn't a punk band since you never were, are not, and never will be a punk/part of the punk scene? CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP you listened to Blink when you were a wee lad - you want a medal and again is that some kind of street/punk cred? If so it's pretty pathetic like you opening for such a band many years later. Shouldn't you be out opening for Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, Arcade Fire or some shit?

I'm not attending the show. I don't support a show where dweebs like you get on it cuz of what record label and booking agency you're signed to.

Ya gonna email Blink's manager and say Diiv is not a fan of Blink or you're playing the show on the sly.

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 2:21 PM

you too old for this shit D

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 2:46 PM

Blink 182 is considered a "pop punk rock band". I don't know what the fuck that genre is, but that band is hardly a punk band.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 3:42 PM

I heard that the guys in DIIV sat around today, and were like guys we should listen to this dude D on BV. He is absolutely right.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 3:44 PM

D's mom: What did you do today?
D: I got in pointless arguments about music on Brooklyn Vegan.
D's mom: You haven't been looking for a job.
D: That isn't hardcore mom. I don't have time for that shit
D's mom: well, you've been living here for 15 years now.

So original. This is you nigga. You live at home and projecting that sorry existence onto me.

I'm this age, that name I work here, I live here blah blah blah.

Funny how Devin is suddenly silent hehehe.

Diiv can eat a dick.

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 5:47 PM

The lead singer of Blink 182 broke his arm slipping on some hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 6:07 PM

Yo D

You're a pussy.

Posted by Devin | August 19, 2013 6:19 PM

D is a fat 40 year old with a chin strap

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 6:26 PM

'Not a pussy. You sure are for not telling Blink 182's manager Diiv is not a fan of Blink 182. 'Way to post as Devin, D-rider.

6:26 Wow such an original putdown!

Posted by D | August 19, 2013 6:42 PM

assuming that the poster really is in DIIV..

i'm not a part of the personal argument above, but if a member of Blink 182 personally asked DIIV to play because he likes their music and wants them to get exposure, it's beyond messed up for DIIV band members to talk crap about blink 182. They gave you a nice opportunity and you chose to accept it. You should be respectful

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 7:32 PM

Blink 182 sucks. Also, you should also learn how to read. It is D arguing that DIIV shouldn't play cause they aren't punk.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 7:40 PM

The DIIV dude says he used to listen to their music, or some shit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 7:40 PM

Yo D,

You should have read the part where DIIV was asked to play because it is a "benefit". If they called Blink 182's manager and said they didn't like the band. It would now limit their exposure, and also make them look like dicks for refusing to play a benefit. I guess your band management career will never workout after all.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 7:43 PM

Yo D sit on my face

Posted by Max Horwich | August 19, 2013 8:05 PM

Full comedy so far in this thread.

I think I'm starting a D-Gaze band.

We'll just play various other styles of music, yet label them shoegaze.. from the wrong era.

Should go over well with the young set.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 10:16 PM

You guys, I went to the mall today.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2013 11:59 PM

You guys, I bought hummus at the mall today.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 12:20 AM

I just wanted to say that DIIV began as a punk band, and eventually adopted a new style because of their origin in the punk scene our band requested that they play with us.

Posted by Travis Barker | August 20, 2013 12:55 AM

Hey Travis,
I've always wanted to ask you if yr penis is tattoed and exactly how old you were the first time you saw a grown man naked? Btw I absolutely love Blink, especially for all the cred you guys get me on the street! Keep on chooglin'.

Posted by Frank Lloyd Right | August 20, 2013 12:50 PM

I love blink 182.

Posted by Orville Wright | August 20, 2013 1:31 PM

7:32 Thank you for being the ONE poster who got my point.

7:40 WRONG. Do not pas Go, do not collect $200, right to Jail you go (wait...Monopoly doesn't have Jail anymore so off the board you go.) I don't think Diiv should play because they're shit-talkers and ingrates. You're not a fan of Blink 182? Keep it to yourself, but now that you told everyone you're not fans, tell their manager.

...which leads me to 7:43pm

Why doesn't Diiv tell Blink 182's manager they're not fans of Blink 182 since one of them (Devin) did it here in BV comments about the show, for all to see? Or did Devin post them because Blink's manager doesn't read BV comments? Diiv is arrogant and needs to be put in their place. A bunch of indie rock dorks being asked to play a show which is a prized show slot yet going out of their way to diss the headliner whose manager got them on the show need to be kicked off the show and replaced by a band who'd fully appreciate opening for Blink 182, fans of Blink 182 or not who would keep not being fans to themselves.
