Arctic Monkeys at Webster Hall - 9/16/13
Arctic Monkeys fully broke in 2006 with a little album called Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, backed by loads of UK-crit hype and some inescapable singles. But while most '00s breakout bands who share the same story have either disappeared or are still trying to live off of those early hits, at Arctic Monkeys' Webster Hall show on Monday (9/16) -- the second night on their North American tour -- they only played two tracks from that record and still put on a wild show. They played a bunch from their newest album, AM, which takes the Sabbath/QOTSA riffage they developed on their last two LPs and gives it a funky makeover, plus a bunch of other post-hype favorites like "Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair" and "Pretty Visitors."
Opening the show was NYC's Drowners, who owe a thing or two to the same post-Libertines rock era that Arctic Monkeys' early material does. Pictures of both bands are in this post.
