Alone Together At Last:
Lena Dunham and David Sedaris
November 19th, 2013 at 8pm
Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall

Dunham, seven-time EMMY® nominee and two-time Golden Globe® Award winner will read stories of unrequited lust, dangerous dangling on the career ladder and tiny triumphs of the heart. Dunham serves as executive producer, writer and director for GIRLS, the highly popular series on HBO now in its third season. Dunham has quickly established herself as one of the top young voices in TV and film making today and recently signed a deal with Random House Publishing for a collection of essays to be titled Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned, slated to be released in 2014.

"I have long been obsessed with David Sedaris' work, speaking voice and personal life. I feel like this is my big chance to really get everything I need from him. This is an honor, a dream come true, and every other cliché used to describe incredible and unexpected things. I look forward to learning, and laughing, a lot."- Lena Dunham

Internationally known for his sardonic wit, and one of the world's most pre-eminent humorists, David Sedaris' readings never fail to entertain and enlighten. Sedaris, author of multiple New York Times number one best sellers and three-time GRAMMY® nominee, has sold over 7 million copies of his books and has won countless literary awards. His latest book release, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, debuted number one on the New York Times bestseller list and has remained on the list for the last 17 weeks.

"I've loved Lena's writing on Girls and in The New Yorker. Then we met and I was struck, not just by her enthusiasm, but by her excellent manners. She's young and talented and writes e-mails that begin with "Dear" rather than, "Hi."- David Sedaris

Girls = successfully teaching young suburban and rural women how to dress ugly since 2010.

F@cking hipster chicks and their bad fashion.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 1:21 PM

Girls is probably the most overrated show on TV. The show itself thinks it is so important that it has fooled middle aged critics into believing that it actually is solely out of fear of said critics appearing out of touch.

Does anyone really need another season of "Lena Dunham on a Toilet" starring rich people's beautiful daughters playing poor self absorbed faux Brooklynites? Pass.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 1:23 PM

Lena Dunham is always naked/ close to it. Makes me wanna vom.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 1:41 PM

Girls is a pile of shit show. Dunham is a hack. I wish i had rich and connected parents to fund my indie movie and get me a t.v. deal.

Posted by AnonHUMMUS | September 9, 2013 2:11 PM

they will share a dildo on stage

Don't watch the show but everyone I know who does says it's funny, I'll reserve judgment...but is this something people want to see? The two of them onstage for an evening of reading and conversation? It just seems an odd way to pass an evening, but to each his own I suppose

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 2:52 PM

mommy & daddy, i need more money for publicity! I spent all last month's!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:02 PM

She's young and talented and writes e-mails that begin with "Dear" rather than, "Hi."- David Sedaris

Shit yeah, let's get this girl an Emmy! All she needs is a few more scenes of her naked on the toilet.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:15 PM

Hmm. Wonder if anonymous was turned down for a part? Tastes like sour grapes to me!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:25 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:26 PM

The only funny thing about GIRLS is the fact that the most (only?) compelling characters on the show are Ray and Adam. It should have been called GUYS, amirite?

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:38 PM

First season of Girls was actually pretty funny. Fell apart real fast, though.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:44 PM

Saw "C.O.G." at the BAM Film Festival a few months back and it was really great. Definitely check it out!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 3:52 PM

the worst...

Posted by Brooklyn resident | September 9, 2013 4:56 PM

Lena Dunham: the patron saint of wish fulfillment.

Posted by Crosseyed Sniper | September 9, 2013 5:07 PM

David Sedaris is pretty great but Lena Dunham RUINS this show. She is extremely terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 5:52 PM

why

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 6:05 PM

i can't wait for the excellent 50 shot photo series that will accompany the post about this "event"

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 6:36 PM

Every character on that show is a self-absorbed douche.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 7:02 PM

Mindy Kaling or Sloane Crosley should do this instead. Both must smarter.

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 7:44 PM

yuckmouth

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 8:24 PM

hate much?

that being said, venue is way too big for a 'talk' type of event

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 8:26 PM

Gross! Listening (and/or having to look at) Lena Dunham = torture!

Posted by Anonymous | September 9, 2013 10:56 PM

It's kind of nice that they have programs like Girls for overweight, zit faced young women that couldn't get laid even if the were willing to pay someone.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 12:58 AM

God I'm so glad I don't even own a TV.

...this is a TV thing, right?

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 1:41 AM

TV - There's a reason they call it the idiot box.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 2:28 AM

shes an absolute PIG

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 3:41 AM

There are a million better writers than this girl. I know she's famous and i know that i am not ALLOWED to say anything bad about her...but hi: SHE DOESN'T HAVE A BOOK. She literally has never published anything. Sad to see everyone caught up in the hype of a perfectly charming and funny person who is an average talent. Who cares what she has to say? Truly.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 10:14 AM

IT ISN'T WORKING

Posted by Jason | September 10, 2013 11:03 AM

Posted by Cody | September 10, 2013 11:05 AM

@BrooklynVegan, the presale code isnt working.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 11:08 AM

I hope that little piglet makes a lot of $, because no one will ever lover her.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 11:20 AM

The code doesn't work.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 11:39 AM

call in and give code they'll let you buy tickets over phone. website is fucked up!

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 11:46 AM

Shame on everyone enabling this utterly untalented product of junk food and nepotism by ordering tickets.

She owes her entire career to HBO's marketing muscle.

She's truly a disgrace.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 12:19 PM

There was a time when great actresses could convey emotions such as allure and mystery by acting .Think Katherine Hepburn or Audrey Hepburn. Now the rich fat girls dads give them tv shows to take off their clothes and get acclaim. Different world.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 12:41 PM

Lena Dunham is clown shit.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 12:53 PM

I can't watch Girls because seeing LD naked makes me nauseous and I have to turn it off.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 1:38 PM

Is she really naked on that idiotic show? How disgusting if true.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 2:03 PM

^she isn't just naked, she is CONSTANTLY naked. It's truly gross.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 2:14 PM

if she wasn't all tattooed-up on her arms like a guy, she'd be pretty hot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 3:12 PM

^you have awful taste and extremely low standards.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 3:29 PM

She isn't just constantly naked, she is constantly naked while often also sitting on the toilet talking to her friends.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 3:48 PM

Thinking Lena Dunham is hot is the same as thinking the dollar pizza joints are gourmet fine dining.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 3:52 PM

312 You must not live in NYC if you find her even attractive. 352 Decent analogy. I just googled her nude images. Wow! I thought you were all joking! That is just nasty and not in a good way. I can't believe some guy actually hits that.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 5:11 PM

David, tell her she can become like your sister. (She already is, though)

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 5:14 PM

Chill out, trolls, so much female hatred here

Posted by amy | September 10, 2013 5:18 PM

518 An obnoxious, overweight, not very attractive woman who enjoys being filmed nude sitting on the toilet kind of brings it upon herself.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 6:08 PM

@5:18 oh go fuck yourself with that blanket statement.

More like hatred for 1 specific female who actually deserves it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2013 6:18 PM

FUBV BAD CODE

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2013 12:42 AM

1242 Start your own site douchebag!

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2013 1:22 AM

#fupa

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2013 11:09 AM

Spencer isen't a pretty little liar anymore.. lol

Posted by Jaylynn | October 4, 2013 12:04 PM

Okay, I'm glad that LD is comfortable in her own skin, however that doesn't mean that she needs to broadcast it. I think being nude on camera is classless. This is no way to set an example, she's begging for attention and not the positive kind. Get on Jenny Craig girl, and EVEN then we still probably would rather gouge out our eyes than watch you strut your floppy stuff around, am i right?

Posted by Allie | March 18, 2014 5:38 PM

People like you need to stop. You think people of color can't relate to what goes on Girls just because most of the actors are white? And when this does have non-white character it does a better job of characterization and subverting stereotypes then most shows (even the ones that has few white people).
