The gala for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize, Canada’s annual award for a great album, took place tonight and the winner is post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor for their comeback album, Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!. Godspeed were up against Metric, METZ, Purity Ring, Colin Stetson, Tegan & Sara, and more.

Ian Ilavsky of their label Constellation Records, who accepted the prize, said the band will use their $30,000 prize to benefit music education in Quebec prisons.

Godspeed will be in NYC when their tour with Nine Inch Nails hits Barclays Center on October 14. Tickets for that show are still available.
