Nine Inch Nails headlined the second night of Made In America, filling the "rock legend" slot occupied by Pearl Jam at last year's festival. As with Pearl Jam, many fans showed up mainly to see the headliner, and others left before their set. Like Public Enemy, who played the Rocky stage the prior day, NIN do not fit into the #YOLO vibe, which means that a good amount of the audience don't know what to do with their music. Are girls expected to grind? Should guys twirl their t-shirts over their heads? There's no question that it's a much different era from the one when Trent Reznor and crew leveled the stage at Woodstock '94 and had their zeitgeist moment. [CBS Philly]
The Jay Z-curated Budweiser Made In America Festival on Philly's Benjamin Franklin Parkway wrapped up on Sunday (9/1) with sets from Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Miguel, Black Hippy (aka Kendrick Lamar/Schoolboy Q/Ab-Soul/Jay Rock), Diarrhea Planet and Solange. Pictures of those artists are in this post. The second day of the festival also included sets by The Gaslight Anthem, Wavves, AlunaGeorge, The Front Bottoms, Pujol, The Underachievers, and more.

Kendrick Lamar/Ab-Soul/Jay Rock and AlunaGeorge will be playing NYC soon. Nine Inch Nails (with Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and Queens of the Stone Age (with The Kills) will be playing the Jay Z-affiliated Barclays Center later this year.

If you haven't been keeping up with our Made In America coverage, check out pictures of day 1 (part 1) and day 1 (part 2). Stay tuned for another set of day 2 pictures. More of this set, below...

Overall, too much shitty hip hop and EDM this year. Once QOTSA hit the stage it was a relief to see guitar, bass, and drums. They were great, as always.

NIN was amazing! Trent sounds fantastic, the band is tight, and the light show is scintillating. Anyone who claims to like music should go to their Barclays show.

Pitchfork gave the new NIn album a 7/10. That guy who gave the review must be rainman cause its one of the best pieces to come out in a while.

rainman was really good at math. it must have been the correct score.

I was on the outskirts during the rappers sets than all the sheep exited and I got up to the rail for both Queens and NIN, excellent sets

If you told me you liked NIN as anything other than a guilty pleasure at dinner or a party, I'd nod politely while thinking, "This person has terrible taste in music. Remember to ignore their opinions on everything related to culture." I might even think you were a little slow in the head.

6:21 probably listens to Haim or some shitty EDM act...

No one was around during Nine Inch Nails it was strange the zombie EDM people made their way over to the stage but couldn't figure out how to dance to this. Strange festival.

Is anybody going to this?

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2013 8:32 PM

3:11, Pitchfork only gave it a 7 because their hipster cred would be ruined if they gave it a higher rating. Pitchfork is such a pretentious piece of shit.

Posted by Anonymous | September 3, 2013 8:48 PM

8:48, they also gave the new Daft Punk a 8.6. But, they gave human after all a 4.6 or some shit. They never had credibility.

Some see it as recognition and exposition, of the dark underbelly of the spirit of this time. Each song is a glimpse into a different facet of what some consider the evil, self-destructive, nihilistic behavior of the human experiment.

People can be pathetic. They root for someone's success then shit on them when they succeed. Beyonce is a great artist and worked her ass off to maintain the longevity she has. Solange is a great artist. Very unique. If Solange blew up like Beyonce the same people hating on B would hate on Solange. Sad. Also, people who think they are doing Solange a favor by comparing her to and bashing her SISTER are doing her a real disfavor. I'm sure they both want the best for each other. Love this song: )
