NOLA sludge kings Eyehategod have been in limbo since the untimely passing of drummer Joey LaCaze last month. LaCaze was a unique talent, and the band wisely chose not to rush into announcing a replacement for him. However wise, this decision had a price. LaCaze’s empty throne forced the band to cancel their Invisible Oranges-sponsored boat show earlier in September.

Eyehategod’s 25th-anniversary appearance at Phil Anselmo‘s Housecore Horror Film Fest has hung in the balance since. Happily, the festival announced today that the band has found a suitable fill-in for their 10/26 appearance: Dale Crover of (the) Melvins, who will also join the bill as a replacement for Crowbar.

Presumably, Crover won’t replace LaCaze in the long term; his main band tours a lot, and he’s one of its two core members. But as far as matches for EHG go, he’s as good as they’re likely to get — dude is one of the hardest hitters in the game, and he’s got the chops to manage EHG’s sneaky time-stretch tempo component.

The Housecore fest — which also features Goblin performing their Suspiria score — will take place from 10/24 through 10/27 in Austin. Tickets are still available.
