Dale Crover with (the) Melvins (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Dale Crover

NOLA sludge kings Eyehategod have been in limbo since the untimely passing of drummer Joey LaCaze last month. LaCaze was a unique talent, and the band wisely chose not to rush into announcing a replacement for him. However wise, this decision had a price. LaCaze's empty throne forced the band to cancel their Invisible Oranges-sponsored boat show earlier in September.

Eyehategod's 25th-anniversary appearance at Phil Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film Fest has hung in the balance since. Happily, the festival announced today that the band has found a suitable fill-in for their 10/26 appearance: Dale Crover of (the) Melvins, who will also join the bill as a replacement for Crowbar.

Presumably, Crover won't replace LaCaze in the long term; his main band tours a lot, and he's one of its two core members. But as far as matches for EHG go, he's as good as they're likely to get -- dude is one of the hardest hitters in the game, and he's got the chops to manage EHG's sneaky time-stretch tempo component.

The Housecore fest -- which also features Goblin performing their Suspiria score -- will take place from 10/24 through 10/27 in Austin. Tickets are still available.

Nice. Hoping EHG finds a permanent replacement and gets back on the road soon! Rip Joey.

Just to clarify, Eyehategod, with Dale Crover, will perform on Sunday, October 27, with HeadCrusher, Skrew, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, and Goblin live-scoring SUSPIRIA for the first time ever in North America.

The Melvins will perform with GWAR, Whitechapel, Goatwhore, and Iron Reagan on Saturday, October 26.

Might just be coincidence and me just being over observant but the layout of the tracks on (A) Senile Animal reminds me of the Black Flag album My War. A load of short fast tracks with the odd 5 minute one, then three 6 minute, slow, slabs of doom. Quite similar and I think Melvins were supposed to be highly influenced by that album, but who knows...
