Stars of the Lid in NYC in 2008 (more by Chris Owyoung)
SOTL

Veteran ambient duo Stars of the Lid haven't played the US in five years, but that will change this fall. First, they'll take part in Kranky's 20th Anniversary shows, which go down in various Chicago venues from December 12 - 15. Other artists playing include Grouper (who has a new "pop" band), Tim Hecker, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Benoit Pioulard, Lichens, Implodes, and more. Full lineups and ticket info below.

After the Chicago show, Stars of the Lid will head to NYC to play Church of St. Paul the Apostle on December 17 (405 W 59th St). At that show and the Chicago one, Stars of the Lid will be accompanied by the 10-piece Wordless Music Orchestra. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale now.

Earlier this year, Kranky reissued Stars of the Lid's 1996 album, The Ballasted Orchestra. Stream that album via Spotify, along with the Kranky Anniversary lineups, below...

stars of the lid make the slowest ambient styles and it's a pleasant listen when you need those feelings of still and calm moments

If there's one thing I like even slightly more than this music, it's how ANGRY it makes the people who don't like it. Maybe, I dunno, expend your emotional energy somewhere else? It's almost like you don't have enough friends or joy in your life to spend it positively...
