Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend

On the heels of their excellent third album, Modern Vampires of the City, Vampire Weekend brought their tour to Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Friday (9/20) -- the day after Yeah Yeah Yeahs played the same big venue -- for what was their largest headlining NYC show yet. VW split the set pretty evenly between all three of their albums, playing tons of highlights like "Giving Up the Gun," "Cousins," "Unbelievers," "A-Punk," and many more in their 23-song set, plus a cover of Blur's "Song 2." Opening the show was two pop singers with a Dev "Blood Orange" Hynes association, Solange and Sky Ferreira. Pictures of all three artists are in this post.

The show also streamed live on Sirius XM's Alt Nation, and if you missed it (or want to listen again), it rebroadcasts today (9/23) at 8 PM ET.

More pictures, plus VW's setlist and videos (including one of "Song 2"), below...

Anyone find the HALF HOUR wait between Sky and Solange to be a tad absurd?

what did GABE SPIERER THINK OF ALL THIS ?

"In January 2012, Prezzy Barack Obizzay added Vampire Weekend ta a short list of musical artists dat da perved-out muthafucka sought support from fo' his bangin re-erection campaign. I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch!"

nice photos!

@ 5:43

Fuck right off.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 5:49 PM

did they actually fill up the place reasonably well or was this another yeah yeah yeahs type situation?

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 5:51 PM

A long time ago I saw Vampire Weekend play a free show at a band shell on the East River. I found out about the show on BV. It's been really neat to see them rise in popularity. But their music is terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 5:53 PM

Did anyone else pessimistically hope when they read the headline that the Blur cover would actually be something besides "Song 2"?

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 5:55 PM

@5:51 surprisingly they did fill the venue up almost to full capacity.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 6:19 PM

it was definitely half empty on the floor

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 6:22 PM

Which was weird cuz the rest of the arena was filled-

Posted by BrenBren | September 23, 2013 6:35 PM

the floor thing is weird, I looked for tickets two days before the show and couldnt get any GA.. think it was on purpose

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 6:36 PM

People are still apparently unaware that there are capacity restrictions on the floor set by the FDNY that most real venues follow. Barclays Center isn't the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium where they dangerously oversell a show and let everyone file onto the field.

i got a GA ticket at 6PM friday thru ticketmaster.

Was there non-stop fog machine? Nice photos, but I thought I was developing cataracts when looking at them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 8:33 PM

I was there flossing out my beast-ass cock. I love Ezra's cum, yo!

Posted by Max Horwich | September 23, 2013 8:55 PM

Sky Ferreira's not in jail?

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 10:35 PM

Eating dinner at a restaurant tonight and someone said "pass the hummus" and I immediately grabbed my heroin needle and stuck it directly into my butthole

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 11:21 PM

How appropriate that a fake indie band was supported by two failed pop starlets now being marketed to hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2013 11:35 PM

Yeah, what's up with the bullshit pop lately that's being marketed towards hipsters? I'm looking at you, Haim, Chvrches, Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, etc...
And why are hipsters buying into it?

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 1:39 AM

Put down the VSCO filters and step away from the photoshop.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 1:52 AM

you're right, Haim sucks

This nigg speaks the damn truth!

I agree 1000%

Jesus preached bestiality.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 3:46 AM

Chvrches got their start by dropping stuff on soundcloud, not soap operas on the CW.

^ Even the spambots are making fun of Vampire Weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 7:57 AM

I fucked my dad while listening to Vampire Weekend. FUCK my LIFE.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 7:58 AM

"And why are hipsters buying into it?"

Is it really surprising? Its simply intelligent marketing. If there is a buzz created, no matter how false it may seem, the lemmings will buy in to it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 8:54 AM

5:55 I thought they would cover Mr. Briggs!

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 9:40 AM

they didnt play run or diplomat son?

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 10:04 AM

^ The whole setlist is listed above, you fucking numbskull. No, they didn't play those songs, but really useful question. Keep up the good work, you lazy/worthless piece of shit.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 10:08 AM

...was a great show. Shocking, but it was. They had the top of the upper deck dancing and singing a long.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 10:19 AM

lol 10:08, i read the setlist, take a chill pill dude(tte)

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 11:04 AM

8:54, you are correct. The industry has finally figured out the formula for marketing to a group of people that don't like to be marketed to.
If you flood the music blogs and Pitchfork with positive reviews for crappy music, the hipsters will still buy into it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 12:15 PM

Sky Ferreira has fine thighs.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 12:44 PM

Is Sky wearing sunglasses because she's doped up?

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 2:31 PM

Hitler was a Jew.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 7:21 PM

Y'all will be embarrassed as fuck in ten years when you realize vampire weekend have out three excellent pop records and you wasted a decade of yr life shitting on them cuz you refused to give them a chance. Stay lazy you guys!

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2013 7:51 PM

So why go to the trouble of being in the photo pit and have mostly fish-eye pics and use filters to make the images look like they were taken by an iPhone?? Better pics from the last BV courage of a VW show in NYC...

This. Barclay's doesn't undersell their GA, so it's always pretty spaced out.

Christ, they're having fun with it, ok? and their style is just this way - did you not see their cover of blurred lines? let them do what they want because it's their talent and they can sing however they like???

Posted by Jenny | October 16, 2013 2:04 PM

yay, more over-filtered fauxtography!
