Cold Cave @ 285 Kent earlier this summer (more by Lucas Hodge)
Cold Cave

Swearin’ @ House of Vans in August (more by David Andrako)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Suuns, Rose Windows, Dinowalrus @ Le Poisson Rouge
Montreal’s intense, krauty Suuns have been through NYC a few times in the past year, but they are always worth catching. Tonight’s show is an appealing triple-bill, including Seattle’s psych-rockers Rose Windows and locals Dinowalrus. Tickets are still available.

Swearin’, Shellshag, Honey @ 285 Kent Avenue
Brooklyn’s scrappy, honest pop punks Swearin’ just opened The Julie Ruin’s sold-out Bowery Ballroom show last night, but tonight you’ll get a chance to see them headlining, and in a location truer to their DIY roots. It’s a great all-around show, rounded out by Brooklyn DIY vets Shellshag and Psychic Ills-related project, Honey.

Cold Cave, Douglas J. McCarthy @ Glasslands
Want to enjoy Cold Cave’s gothy synthpop without any Boyd Rice aftertaste? Wes Eisold and crew will do just that tonight and tickets are still available.

Laura Mvula, King @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Laura Mvula hasn’t escalated to pop stardom yet (tonight’s show is not sold out, but tomorrow’s LPR show is), but she’s got the material for it so we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not long until you don’t see her in venues as small as these anymore. The UK singer has an immediate pop appeal, but not without ambition and boundary-crossing, and her single “Green Garden” is pretty hard to get out of your head.

Neko Case @ Skylight West
It’s a month of extremes for Canadian Neko Case. Before playing in tony palace Radio City Music Hall, she’ll play the much more intimate (but no less swanky) Skylight West tonight. It’s a free show but the RSVP closed a while back. You can still get tickets to Radio City, though.

Lapalux, Slava, Druid Cloak, FLOTE @ Tribeca Grand Hotel
UK producer Lapalux has been signed to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label for a while now, and he finally put out his debut full length for the label earlier this year. He’s now on his first North American tour since that release, hitting NYC tonight at Tribeca Grand Hotel (moved from Le Bain), and returning in early October for a show at Glasslands. All good openers tonight too.

Chopp, These Days, Black Lagoon, Petal War @ Death by Audio
Tom Tom, the zine dedicated to female drummers, is hosting tonight’s show that’s headlined by rapper, Chopp, plus sets from post punks These Days, Black Lagoon and Petal War. There will also be free pocket pianos and t-shirts, but it’s $7 to get in.

The Music Tapes @ 133rd St. Arts Center
Before Neutral Milk Hotel heads on tour, Julian Koster is doing one last run of shows for his band The Music Tapes at 133rd St. Arts Center Lab. Tonight’s the dress rehearsal, and it’s the first of five appearances this week. Free but RSVP is closed.

Big Terrific @ Cameo Gallery
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg’s Lovin’ Cup. The line-up is usually held pretty close to the vest, but you can check his Twitter for the line-up. For more laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
