Alt-J at Terminal 5 in March (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Alt-J

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Alt-J, Lord Huron @ Rumsey Playfield in Central Park
A year ago, Alt-J were playing Glasslands and Mercury Lounge. Since then, their debut album, An Awesome Wave, won the Mercury Prize and the band have been playing bigger venues every time through. And after a summer of playing big outdoor festivals, they’re probably ready for somewhere like Central Park. It’s worth showing up for the folky Lord Huron too.

Califone, Richard Buckner @ Littlefield
Chicago indie vets Califone don’t get a lot of hype, but have been releasing quality music since the late ’90s. Case in point: their just-released their seventh album, Stitches.

Grails, Wrekmeister Harmonies, Lilacs & Champagne @ Saint Vitus
Psychedelic post-rockers Grails and related band Lilacs & Champagne (who veer closer to trip hop) bring their tour with JR Robinson’s Wrekmeister Harmonies to NYC tonight. Get ready to viiiiiiibe.

Lightning Dust, Louise Burns @ Union Pool
What started as a Black Mountain side project, duo Lightning Dust now have three albums under their belt, most recently, Fantasy, having been released this summer finds them adding electronics to their psychedelic folk sound.

Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band @ Bowery Ballroom
Yoko Ono’s new Plastic Ono Band album, Take Me to the Land of Hell, is out Tuesday and features guests like tUnE-yArDs, Questlove, Nels Cline, Cibo Matto, and Cornelius. Who will show up tonight for this intimate, sold-out show?

Nick Speed, WSG, A La $ole, Bruiser Brigade, Dusty McFly, Hillie Hill @ Mercury Lounge
This hip hop bill includes a few people from detroit — Nick Speed (who has produced for 50 Cent, M.O.P., Talib Kweli), Bruiser Brigade (the group Danny Brown is usually in, but isn’t tonight), and Dusty McFly — plus a couple local names like producer Hillie Hill (Nas, Biggie) and A La $ole of Joey Bada$$’s Pro Era crew.

Agnostic Front @ Revolution (Long Island)
It’s been a little while since NYHC legends Agnostic Front have played NYC, but today they’ll make two nearby appearances. First they’re doing an in-store meet & greet at Clock-Work Records from 1-3 PM in Hastings-On-Hudson, and then at night they’re playing Revolution in Long Island.

The Casualties @ Sideshows By The Seashore
Another veteran NYC punk band The Casualties, who have been doing a number of Northeast dates this week, are in Coney Island tonight for all age ages show. More info here.

Upstart Fest @ Knitting Factory
For more punk, head to Knitting Factory Brooklyn, where they’re hosting Upstart Fest with tons of punk ‘n’ roll from The Scandals, Koffin Kats, Turbo AC’s, and more.
