Will Sheff and his band Okkervil River showed up for work Friday at the Honda Stage in a much different frame of mind than they did the previous Friday. “Playing festivals is the most fun, but also the most stressful thing we do,” he said. “But having played here just last week makes it less nerve-wracking.” All the sound mixes from last week have been kept on hard drives for every band returning.
Since this is the first year the Austin City Limits Music Festival has taken place on two consecutive weekends, with nearly identical lineups, Friday was the day to see if the lack of spontaneity would zap any of the enthusiasm from the first weekend. But the only difference seemed to be that everyone — from bands to crews to fans — seemed to be a bit more relaxed. We know how to do this. -[The Statesman]
Weekend 2 of Austin’s ACL Music Festival is underway as we speak, with an almost identical line-up and schedule and the first. Friday night (10/11) featured sets from Arctic Monkeys, Okkervil River, Queens of the Stone Age, Blind Boys of Alabama, Vampire Weekend, and more. Pictures from those bands’ sets and more of the action are in this post.
Weekend 2 continues today (10/12) with sets from The Cure, Wilco, Passion Pit, Kings of Leon, Junip and loads of others. If you’re not there, you can stream it live. We’ll have more coverage of Weekend 2 of ACL 2013 BrooklynVegan and on BV Austin so stay tuned. You can check out pics from Weekend 1 as well. Meanwhile, more pics from Weekend 2, Day 1 below…
