Danzig

It's pretty well known that Glenn Danzig doesn't like pictures or video, so it's not too surprising that at a recent show on his current tour, he got pretty angry at one audience member who was filming. Danzig doesn't just get angry though. He gets distracted and really angry. In this case he ordered the crowd to punch the guy taking video, and what's sort of amazing is that the very video in question is now on the internet for our viewing pleasure. Watch below...

--

(video from Cuban Club in Ybor City, Florida via Noisey)

Apparently there were signs to not film, but the video maker writes:

I didn't see those signs. There was no mention on the Groupon ticket about such a policy. Thank God I didn't pay full price and even got a free drink out of it. I'm not sending? another dime this asshole's way. For the record, I didn't miss the show. I got back in. Eat a bowl of dicks, Dan Houle.
The Groupon ticket?!? At least he got back in AND was able to keep his footage. A happy ending indeed.

In related news, somehow we managed to get pictures of Danzig at Riot Fest. Get your own at your own risk at the following remaining tour dates:

everyone that goes to shows so they can film the back of someones head with their childish phone should be punched. It wasn't okay back in the day when it was camcorders... why is it ok now?

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2013 6:28 PM

I hate phone people at concerts and Danzig was within his rights.

But the Groupon comment was a great zinger. Even if it was made up.

He's a douche. It was great when Vivian Campbell beat the shit out of him 20 years ago.

Or when the dude from the Northside Kings clocked him.

Good for Danzig. People filming concerts should be punched. Just watch the show in person, not behind a viewfinder.

nothing like some asshole holding his cellphone in air..Glad Danzig called him out

Danzig is the Elvis of the alt-rock generation. He's kind of a joke now, but will deeply missed if he suddenly died. Discuss.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2013 7:38 PM

^ That's accurate. Both had a brief period where everything they did was gold, both influenced a whole lot of other musicians and spawned tons of imitators, both wore sideburns, both were equally influenced by crooners and bluesmen and both descended into total shlock at the end.

Difference is Elvis was a fat multimillionaire choking on PBB's and Danzig is working the Cuban Club in Ybor City for PBR chump change. Similarities only go so far.

The biggest problem is the go-to stance for cellphone filming these jerks use. Legs spread wide with both arms extended as high as they'll go holding both sides of the phone sideways. Taking up the maximum amount of space possible. I see it at every show I go to.

Danzig is the Ylvis of the alt-rock generation, what does the fox say?

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2013 9:14 PM

Danzig is like an enema bag wrapped in an enigma wrapped inside a puzzle wrapped inside a Happy Meal from McDonalds.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2013 10:15 PM

don't punch them, give them an atomic wedgie and show the crowd their drawers that will teach them

I'm down with fat Elvis AND Danzig.

Posted by po boy on the line | October 11, 2013 10:30 PM

Anybody who still listens to Danzig deserves to be punched.

Look at that itinerary -- except for NYC, it's a tour of sad little venues in horrible depressing small towns.

"Look at that itinerary -- except for NYC, it's a tour of sad little venues in horrible depressing small towns."

Your knowledge of US cities is mind boggling low.

7:48, it's like a perpetual motion machine - pepole come to NYC from wherever, act smug towards other places, only to get taken down as posers from Idaho. Nobody back home liked them, either. That doesn't matter in the big city, they can suck up big time.

This is a pretty big metal band, they have contract terms that have to be met by venues that can do so profitably. The itinerary has to make logistical sense. It might not be worht it to go to Portland or LA or Chicago just to please some snobbish anonymous commenter who would cause problems when Danzig tells the crowd to punch them.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2013 8:05 AM

"Danzig was within his rights" hahaha. If the kid had been hurt by the crowd, old Glen would have had to play the Cuban Club every night for the rest of his life to try to pay for the lawsuit.

Nashville, TN
Atlanta, GA
Charlotte, NC
Norfolk, VA
Pittsburgh, PA
Houston, TX
Oklahoma City, OK
El Paso, TX
San Francisco, CA
are "small towns"???

Houston is the fourth biggest city in the U.S. and EVERY city above has at least half a million people within city limits except maybe for Norfolk, you numbnut.

I would have been pissed that the guy ruined blood and tears. You guys really have your panties in a bunch when it comes to people taking photos with their phones at concerts. Maybe its because your phones are severely outdated you remain ignorant to the power of a new beautiful iPhone, with its amazing capabilities to capture moments like this.

^ The Midwestern hipster speaketh.

Go watch a Buckeyes game bitch.

Posted by D | October 12, 2013 11:58 AM

Danzig will kick your bitchy little ass...PUNK!!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2013 4:33 PM

How is it considered "amazing" that this video exists? It's the fucking internet BV, how stupid can you be? Duh.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2013 8:41 PM

I think Danzig was in the right with his anger, he just didn't have to egg on the crowd to hurt the guy. Some dipshit puts an iPhone light a few feet away from my face, I'm gonna say something.

Posted by D | October 13, 2013 12:20 AM

I've been kicked in the head while my attention was on taking a photo. It came out looking cool, but my camera was broken by the impact. If you want to take pictures, have a buddy watch out for you. Many people think that the photographer was asking for it when it goes down, as proven by the comments above.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2013 3:58 AM

It's interesting to me, 3:58, that you know people want to kick you in the head and hurt your camera for your actions but you continue the behavior anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2013 5:16 AM

My iPhone photo library consists of numerous tidily compositions of robust hummus platters.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2013 5:20 AM

Danzig rules. I salute him for this. Cameras phones have ruined America.

Posted by Mawky | October 13, 2013 11:23 AM

The only thing worse than Danzig are his superfans.

He's a massive douche who makes good music. Just accept it that no matter how much you stan for him, he would probably punch you if he asked you for $100 and you said no. Just a totally unreasonable, egomaniacal dickhead.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2013 11:48 AM

I have no problem Danzig calling out someone filming when he doesn't want to be filmed, but inciting some one to punch the guy (which potentially could have happened, you never know), well that's just not cool.

Danzig hasn't been relevent since 1986.

Posted by D | October 14, 2013 1:08 AM

Can't believe the number of people commenting here who have a personal problem with people taking pictures or recording a show with their phones. Who gives a shit? Watch the show and enjoy it yourself and let the others capture their memories for posterity. Welcome to the information ages, bitches.

Posted by BillyGoat | October 15, 2013 11:13 AM

for the past HOW MANY YEARS, glenn has always said no cameras at his shows. this is nothing new. this dude was only pissed because he got caught by the man himself. it's glenn's show, glenn's rules. obey or don't go

Posted by ziggy | October 17, 2013 10:23 AM

No videos/photo's rule in full effect in Niagara Falls last night. Security actively enforcing this too - even turning people away at the door if the phones were found on people during pat-downs and metal dectecting. It's a douche rule. But for once it was nice to focus on the show - rather than uploading pictures to Facebook from the front row to impress my friends sitting at home.

Posted by Bob Abooey | October 18, 2013 9:43 AM

He sounded amazing!!!! Wish I went!

Posted by Natalia | October 22, 2013 11:35 PM

many many people allow filming at their shows, and even set aside sections of seats for Tapers. if I am going to pay upwards of 50 dollars for a ticket, sorry. Im taping it. Assaulted or not, tape rolls.

Posted by cold hard truth | December 18, 2013 9:17 PM

Nope, you are the asshole, and if you cant do the one thing he asked then maybe you shouldn't be going to his shows anyway,he is very clear that fans can get crazy tare shit up and have fun at his shows but ask one thing of you and you cant have respect enough to do it.SMH.........
