Daughter @ Terminal 5 - 10/5/13
The great thing about a band like Daughter? Any type of gimmicks are unnecessary. Elena, seemingly a shy-natured person, didn't have to do a whole lot at the mic; her flawless (flawless!) vocals and words spoke ethereal volumes. At any given time, the crowd was in complete awe of her, and nearly all of the audience packed into Terminal 5 seemed to hold their breath in the smokey silence between song changes, just hanging on the next guitar strum. There were points through out the show where pacing seemed a little off; a few of the songs felt more sped up than usual and Elena fumbled with her ear piece quite a bit, so it's possible that there were some technical troubles, but every now and then one couldn't help but notice a flutter of nerves underlying her vocals. Towards the end of the show, an explanation was offered in an almost whisper, incredulous: "This is the biggest show we've ever played!" The crowd went nuts, many raising their arms over their heads, forming their hands into the shape of a heart. For the encore, Daughter came out played one song: their crowd-pleasing, husky cover of "Get Lucky," sending everyone home a little after 11 o' clock feeling a little more whole, a little more sad, and a little more sexy. [Ftwelve]UK indie folkies Daughter brought their North American tour to NYC this past Saturday (10/5) for a show at Terminal 5, their largest headlining NYC gig yet. They played a bunch of their debut album, If You Leave, and encored with a cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." Pictures, including openers Bear's Den, the setlist, and videos from the show are in this post.
