Doomriders at House of Vans in 2012 (More by Fred Pessaro)
Doomriders

The new Doomriders album, Grand Blood, came out yesterday. As you may recall, they're also playing a string of support dates for the extremely awesome-looking High On Fire/Kvelertak tour going down in November, including the November 15 NYC date at Webster Hall (tix available here).

To celebrate, we've got a lengthy interview with Newton over at Invisible Oranges. Here's an excerpt:

Is there a particular Doomriders song that you use for a particular purpose?

There's a number of different ones. There's one song in particular called "The Chase" that Jeb, our bass player, sings on. It's really mid-tempo, a head bobber, but it's good to throw in the middle of a set because when I'm usually screaming my head off, it gives me a bit of a rest. "Jealous God" is a good song to let everybody tune but build some tension, because it opens with me just hitting that one note for a while, so we can kind of raise the intensity using feedback, different effects and things. It's like when you sequence an album. You want it to take you on a journey.

The new one's sequenced really well―the last four songs, from "Back Taxes" into "Gone to Hell," just blitz to the end.

The last record was a lot more expansive―I think we put too much material on the last record. With this one, I wanted you to put it on and listen from beginning to end. You have a record like that, that is paced so well that when it ends you want to start it all over? That was the goal. Think of the album like a Pixies song. You need to have the loud and the quiet, the fast and the slow. We're all just really excited to play all the new songs. If it was up to me, we'd just go out and only play the new songs.

Read the whole thing over at IO. You can purchase Grand Blood here; we've got a song streaming and the full run of High on Fire dates below.

Speaking of celebrating, we've also posted a preview of our Friday night (10/18) CMJ showcase at Saint Vitus. As with our Thursday event at Vitus, Pelican will be headlining, but with a different support lineup: Sannhet, Kings Destroy, Wreck & Reference, Phantom Glue, and Pyrrhon. And don't forget about our late-night free show/boozefest at the Omega Order warehouse on Friday with Aksumite, Phantom Glue, Flown, and a special guest headliner.

Doomriders dates are listed, along with a song from Grand Blood, below.

Some artists are very good in making music for lots of movies.

I'm not bothered by it at all. I'm trying to inspire you to make your own music silly. If you feel that heavy music lost its "careless, reckless days" then you should make your own music. If you sit around just bitching about it not being good then guess what it's never gonna change.
