Ohio's Saintseneca feature a member of The Sidekicks and a member of All Dogs, but it's not some side project; just a couple musicians from other bands taking time to help main guy Zac Little with his main project. Zac's nasally voice and stripped down songwriting could probably pass as folk punk, but the collective he surrounds himself with adds layers of dense, post-Arcade Fire arrangements that make Saintseneca a bit more epic than their DIY roots suggest. Their 2011 debut LP, Last, was a great, if somewhat overlooked example of this, but its followup, Dark Arc (due out in March 2014 via ANTI-), is already seeming like it's going to further cement it. The album's first single, "Uppercutter" (which just came out on 7" vinyl today), is maybe their strongest track yet, and you can watch the video for it (via Stereogum) below.
Saintseneca were last in NYC to play Death by Audio in June, and their current tour brings them back for CMJ this week. Their only currently-announced show happens on Friday (10/18) at Cake Shop. They're on first at 7:30 PM, followed by Holy Esque, Like Swimming, Gang of Youths, Eros and the Eschaton, and Vadoinmessico.
