It was a long time between albums, but Khaela Maricich returned this year with her first new album as The Blow since 2007. The self-titled album has all The Blow trademarks: minimally produced, highly melodic electropop with Maricich's twisty wordplay (and cool delivery) upfront. You can stream it at Spotify.
Seeing The Blow live is almost another experience entirely, part performance art where Maricich is capable of making a very intimate connection with the audience, often without aid of a band. (The Blow is now a duo, however, with Melissa Dyne being the other half.) The Blow's tour starts this weekend in Boston and heads West before circling back to wrap up in NYC at Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 10 with Austin's Love Inks. Tickets for the NYC show are still available.
Before the tour officially starts, The Blow will play in NYC on Wednesday (10/9) at The Kitchen as part of their Synth Nights series. Also on the bill are UK duo Big Legs, and Sexual Energies. Says Maricich, "It will be a short performance on our part, a
chance to see an incarnation of what we are up to before it changes a
bunch while we are out on the road." Tickets to Synth Nights are on sale now.
