Violent Femmes at Coachella 2013 (more by Wei Shi)
Violent Femmes

Acoustic punk vets Violent Femmes have been back in action this year (now with Dresden Dolls' Brian Viglione on drums), and one of their reunion dates was a NYC show in Central Park back in September. Though as you may have heard, that show abruptly ended early due to flooding. Via Glide:

Flash floods disrupted Violent Femmes 18 minutes into their set Thursday in Central Park, and ultimately halted the band's first New York show since 2007.

After playing only five songs, and waiting 20 minutes for the lightning strikes to pass, they were told to cut the performance short. "It's nobody's fault; it's the law," bassist Brian Ritchie apologized, promising they would return in October. Behind him a crew scrambled to cover the instruments with tarps. At 7:48, event security ordered Rumsey Playfield cleared, and an exodus of people retreated into the park, where its roads swelled with ankle-deep water.

Violent Femmes have now scheduled what appears to be a one-off in NYC, perhaps to make up for that Central Park show, happening on November 14 at Roseland Ballroom (one of the last shows for the venue). Tickets for the show go on a "special presale offer" today (10/24) at 10 AM, with Citi Cardmember and Live Nation/Mobile App presales starting today at noon. General on-sale begins Friday (10/25) at 10 AM.

UPDATE: Tickets purchased for the Central Park show will be honored. You must present original tickets with valid ID.

The only other Violent Femmes date we're currently aware of is Australia's The Falls Music & Arts Festival.

i got an email sept 18 from ticketmaster:

Attention ticket holder!

We just learned that due to inclement weather your event has been postponed:

Violent Femmes
Rumsey Playfield

(and, fwiw, they sounded great for the ~15mins they played)

BUT

it was obvious that show was getting cancelled before they went on, then they came on and played 3 new songs, then blister and kiss off then apologized and it was over

if they knew they were only getting about 15 mins in they shouldn't have spent more than half that time playing new songs that they themselves admitted onstage no one wanted to hear

but it was fun (not being sarcastic) walking around central park in the torrential downpour

if you got a refund already, you can buy a presale ticket for the Roseland show with password "return"

if you still have your ticket from Central Park, it will be honored at the Roseland show

Just Called ticketmaster they said the rumsey tickets will not be honored at roseland ballroom and that it is still tba so I got a refund for tickets. Weirdd

Posted by Anonymous | October 24, 2013 11:27 AM

they just added this note to the Ticketmaster site
"All valid tickets from the Rumsey Playfield 9/12 date will honored at this event."

Too bad Roseland will already be shut down and in renovation by the time this show happens. Brian Richie fucks you again.

Yes, the "return" code works (thanks for that). But, tickets are $66, so I'll wait to pick one up night of show for much less than that.

If you click on the "Event Info" link on TM it says:

All tickets purchased for the September 12th Rumsey Playfield date will be honored

They're fuckin' idiots to have played Central Park.

Flash floods? So what?

Rain just comes out of nowhere?

No forecast of rain?

Postpone the show.

Those three songs they played before Blister weren't "new". One was from Hallowed Ground, one was from 3, one was from Freak Magnet.

Why are people so inclined to overdramatize their relationship with music?? "That band saved my life" "this song is orgasmic" "I absolutely love them to death." You listen to a lot of music, ok we get it, shut up already. Y'all need some perspective.
