A Tribe Called Quest at Barclays Center - 11/20/13 (via)

Kanye West's tour currently has him in the midst of his 4-night NYC run, which included stops at Barclays Center with Kendrick Lamar on Tuesday (11/19) and A Tribe Called Quest last night (11/20). The run resumes at MSG on Saturday (11/23) with Kendrick and MSG on Sunday (11/24) with Tribe.

For A Tribe Called Quest, these opening slots are being billed as the legendary group's "final" shows. Regarding their set last night, which had an absolutely killer setlist, OkayPlayer writes:

I feel silly saying they played classics. I mean... "Sucka N*gga," "Find A Way" (Dilla dilla, beats beats) and "Bonita Applebum"... I don't think there is such a thing as a non-classic Tribe tune! For "Bonita," a full bodied Stephanie Santiago painted head to toe in red, black, and green stripes ala the iconic Low End Theory artwork, mesmerized the crowd as she walked to the center of the arena holding a cut-out apple with "38-24-37″ written on the reverse side.
A picture of the full setlist (also via Okayplayer) and a video of them performing "Scenario" with Busta Rhymes last night, below.

Tickets for both Kanye shows at MSG are still available.

Video and setlist below...

So annoying they were added to the extra shows Kanye added and not the originals.

Great set list. However, Tribe Called Quest's performances aren't made for large audiences. They sound much better at intimate venues. I saw them absolutely slay it at House of Blues in Orlando of all places.

Tribe were great last night, shame that the place was less than half full for their set. One major complaint though, Bustas mic wasn't working for the first half of his verse on Scenario. Total bummer, how does that happen?

Bonita Applebum has nothing on the Showmen

why do you keep putting final as "final"?? either you''re being kind of rude by saying you assume they are going to play again soon, or you know something we don't. coachella perhaps? either way, you're calling them liars and it doesn't look too cool.

mike hunt really sounds liek someone saying my cunt

7:36, every old artist has claimed that they are going on their last tour or doing their final shows at one point or another. It's a joke when anyone makes that claim. Tribe will probably do shows again in a few years, and so will LCD Soundsystem.

Just for reference, 7:36, here is a list of artists who claimed that they would never tour again or that they would retire, only to go against their word:
* Stones - 1981
* Who - 1982
* Ozzy - 1991 on his "No More Tours" tour
* Bowie - in 1990, claimed he would never play the hits again... he added hits again to his set in 2002
* Jay Z - claimed he was going into retirement after the Black Album in 2003
.. just to name a few off the top of my head.

People have a right to change their minds.

I bet the first four bands/artists you listed didn't even think there'd be a demand for them anymore and/or they'd be around long enough to come back. Who knows?

I think they saw their music had staying power and decided to make another go of it. Money-driven? Sure but they were all money-driven when they said this is their final blah blah blahs.

Jay Z probably figured he was too old to rap after '03, now most the biggest selling/drawing rappers are in their mid-thirties to early-mid forties.

^Eagles and Kiss too..

D, all of the first 4 on the list knew there would be a demand. They probably just got tired, had kids, wanted to tend to their families, experience life, etc.

ummm, what the hell did i just watch??????? Ipod playing with dudes screaming on the mic. I loved A Tribe Called Quest back when, but this shit sucked. Why can't they inject some excitement & throw some musicians on stage, even if they're not really playing. snoozefest.

bonita bonita bonita! i saw that booty clap from the 200s. my god

Posted by Anonymous | November 22, 2013 9:22 AM

Yeah, I love Tribe, but that was a seriously terrible performance in that video.

Posted by Anonymous | November 22, 2013 9:39 AM

If anyone can recall, Tribe had claimed to perform their "last shows" back in 1998 while supporting Beastie Boys at MSG.... I agree, they are not meant for large venues.

Q-tip left his wallet in a Barneys fitting room trying on the new Jay Z line

I don't believe this is their last shows, and If it is, it sucks that they are opening for someone else for them. They should do a headlining show in NYC somewhere like Hammerstein, T5, or rose land, with Mos Def and De La Soul opening, with Madlib djing in between sets.

100% unacceptable that Busta's mic wasn't on. Hope the sound guy was given a pink slip after that.

Thanks for the video. Too bad the sound man messed up Busta's mic. Post anymore you got from this show. I'm hoping the whole show will be available to download.
