Ween is gone for good, and with a posting today on bandcamp, now so is "Gene Ween". The blurb on bandcamp reads:

After 20+ years of near-fatal drug & alcohol abuse (thankfully culminating with intensive but successful rehab), AARON FREEMAN (aka Gene Ween) was left in a dire financial situation. All proceeds will go directly to Aaron, as he continues down the path toward creative freedom and personal health.

These demos represent the final writings and music of Gene Ween, before he departed and the inner FREEMAN emerged. On that note, we have received a two word personal statement from Aaron: "stay tuned."

Head to Bandcamp to hear and buy the six songs, or stream it below..

In related news, Dean Ween aka Mickey Melchiondo Jr. aka Mickey Moist is going on tour in December with his band Moistboyz. Kicking off in Ween's hometown of New Hope on 12/4, the boyz hit Stage 48 in NYC on 12/7 before continuing on their way. All Dean dates are listed under the Gene stream below...

God this is awful (the music, not the retirement).

Ween was the best! I will miss seeing them live!

This is terrible :(

Like really really bad.

It's clear Deaner was where most the talent in the band was.

Maybe he would be better off financially if he didn't run his big mouth and end ween without telling his former band mates. They could still be killing it.

Um, all these songs are great.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2013 1:12 PM

He loved you all just like his children

Moistboyz is where it's at!

These songs are awesome. Ween fans will get it. Fuck everyone else.

Grateful for all of the ingenious music - the sarcastic and the straight up vulnerable and the strange line Ween always was able to stumble between them. Thanks for the chance to help you, dear Geen, and here's to whatever you put your brain too next and wishing you great happiness.

Ironic Ween has a song called "Don't Shit Where You Eat". You might be in a better situation if you didn't shit all over Ween when you got sober for a minute. You come to regret your actions one day. How many shows did you cancel on your big post Gener tour? I know for a fact Atlanta was cancelled. I was actually going to see your sorry ass. Good luck with your solo stuff, and when you come crying back to the band, I hope they tell you to fuck off.

Ween couldn't last forever, but their songs will.

"If I were king, I'd wear a ring and never hurt my people."

The dude was sick and had to retire to get his brain back. People who can't understand that have clearly never had an addiction before and perhaps need to fuck off and let the guy get better.

Yes he cancelled some shows because he was suffering from drug related mental illness issues. Ween was fueled by the very same energy that also messed up Gener in the end.

Give the guy some slack, Genius is not without its toll.

This sounds like a straight up Syd Barrett and Gilbert O'Sullivan mashup. It's good, but its light years away from the Oneness of Ween.

I was addicted to smoking cigarettes. With drawal izza bitch!

Ween fans are like inbred Pearl Jam fans

Let's not forget that we can simultaneously miss Ween and be happy for Aaron that he's figuring out a way to stay alive.

My cack hurts from reading this

Posted by Anonymous | December 3, 2013 8:26 AM

Gener if you by chance actually read all the comments that are posted on this website I just wanted to say I love you Ween is the best

Posted by Anonymous | December 27, 2013 4:32 PM

Telling yourself that being in the band was the reason for your addiction is his OPINION. And by repetitively telling himself that is the cause for his downfall. He COULD have gotten better while still playing with ween but he basically just GAVE UP by saying that crap. Ive dealt with addiction before too and well just fuck it Im too pissed so Im just gonna give up on this post and pull a gene. LONG LIVE WEEN

the music has a more psychedelic feel to it than usual´╗┐

this is beautiful. I miss the band, but this is beautiful. I am a recovering addict to - and as lame as it sounds, I t hink of you as an inspiration to stay clean. I often think "Gener is doing this, so I can too". It helps. I love, love, love all things ween. I love both of your solo projects. Your music means more to me than I can ever describe. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do.

You suck Gener!

We bought your albums, we went to your shows, we bought your t-shirts and you wasted it all on booze and drugs then you have the audacity to break up Ween without even telling Deaner. Now you complain you're broke and you want us to buy up your scraps after you blew all the money we gave you. You gave us the finger and now you want us to give you more money? Screw you!

You owe apologies to a lot of people not the least of which being Deaner whom you treated like crap after being your best friend for over 20 years!

i have had chances to talk to my musical heroes. j mascis and billy corgan have walked by me but i couldn't stop them and say hey, take a photo or whatever. i didn't want to bother them. it can't be easy to have someone tell you that you were one of the most important people in their life when you don't know who they are. i wouldn't want someone to do that to me. Gene is one of the few people who have talked about that so honestly. makes me feel a bit better that i didn't bother those guys. they have done enough for me already.´╗┐

Just wanted to remind some people commenting here that addiction is an illness and everyone has their own ways of dealing with it. If Ween was poisonous to Aaron, it's best that he not continue with the lifestyle it ensued. He is a person who does not owe anything more to the public than anyone commenting. Let him lead the life he wants. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

There was ween and then there was more ween.

project with worth specifications in no much time. Great sharing stuff. It's time for you to prove this is a great site to be published to the people who did not understand the importance of blogs.

Aaron Freeman is the definition of a talented musician and songwriter. I love all ween music and really love everything Freeman has done solo so far. Carry on Mr.freeman, I am in recovery as well, two years sober from serious drug and alcohol addiction. You gotta do what you gotta do, I say go ahead and reach for the stars my friend.
