HAIM at Halloween '93 (via)
IMAGE

Saturday Night Live is back this week (11/2) with host Kerry Washington and musical guest Eminem (just ahead of the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2). The show then takes two weekends off, returning November 16 with Lady Gaga, whose new album ARTPOP is out next week, and she'll pull double duty as both host and musical guest.

Both Eminem and Lady Gaga also play the YouTube Music Awards in NYC this month.

Then on November 23, Haim (who posted the old Halloween pic above on their Facebook yesterday) will be the musical guest and Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson will be the host. Earlier this month HAIM will play the soon-to-close Roseland Ballroom on November 11 as part of a VH1 event called "You Oughta Know In Concert" that also features Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sandé, Matt Nathanson, Lorde and The Lumineers. No tickets were sold -- it's being taped for a special that that will air 11/23 -- but you can watch it live online on 11/11 as it's being filmed, if that's how you want to spend your time. Details TBA. HAIM continue to tour like mad, and all dates are listed below.

Last weekend (10/26) Janelle Monáe was the musical guest (Ed Norton hosted) and if you missed her performances, you can watch them below, she was pretty terrific. You can also check out the spot-on Wes Anderson horror parody, The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders, below too.

Why do we care about Haim again?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 10:36 AM

Haim gets respect, and Billy Joel doesn't. You hipsters are weird.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 10:37 AM

Over/Under on HAIM's marketing budget?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 10:39 AM

"Electric Lady...get waaaaay on down....'cause tonight we gonna do it"

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 11:05 AM

Why should we respect Billy Joel ? because he's been around for 40 years releasing truckloads of crap ? and I've been around long enough to hear most of it... The guy sucks plain & simple..
What next ? respect for The Eagles ?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 11:42 AM

11:42, could you write a song as good as New York State of Mind? Until you can, shut the fuck up.
Also, can you sing harmonies as well as the Eagles? No? Then shut the fuck up.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 11:44 AM

Not because he's been around for 40 years, but because he has dozens of songs that are classics and will continue to be, long past the point that Haim are withered, old women telling their grandchildren of that one year when everyone was sweating the shit out of them.

^this.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:05 PM

Haim are ugly and their music is over marketed obnoxious dreck.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:13 PM

Nah, they're not ugly. I'd do any of them. With that said, their music is bland and devoid of any soul.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:16 PM

Amen, brotha.

Love of Billy Joel is the banner that contrarians love to wave. "I love Billy Joel, therefore I am not a hipster, because Billy Joel is so authentic and sincere." I've seen this countless times. I've met goths and punks and other holier-than-thou subculture people who will always say this to prove how different they are from hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:46 PM

"My favorite band is the Virgin Prunes. My favorite authors are Anne Rice and Edward Gorey. And I got mad love for Billy Joel. Sing us a song, you're the piano man. I'm so much more authentic than you Billy Joel-hating HIPSTERS."

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:49 PM

The only similarities between Haim and Joel is that they are all Jews and all musically irrelevant for the past 30 years.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 12:56 PM

I've seen those 'you should know' commercials

Why do people hate the eagles so much? Life in the Fast Lane is a pretty cool song, hotel california is ok but I have heard it too many times

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 2:02 PM

Can we all at least agree that Eminem and SNL both suck?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 2:24 PM

billy joel looks like my garbage man

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 3:33 PM

@224: and Janelle Monae too

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 3:34 PM

Fuck, Miley Cyrus is more punk than HAIM.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 5:13 PM

2:02, the Eagles have written some of the best pop songs of the 70s, have probably the best vocal harmonies in the business, and a great guitarist in Joe Walsh. People could hate their songs, but their talent is undeniable. That being said, Don Henley and Glenn Frey are pompous assholes.

Billy Joel is one of those artists who can coast on the songwriting for the rest of his life, because his earlier material was so good. People can bash him all they want, but you wish you could collect the publishing royalty paychecks on a song like "Just The Way You Are". He hasn't put out any good material since 1983, but he doesn't have to.
Also, for songwriting coasting, see Prince.

this is my favorite comment section of all the BV posts

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2013 9:19 PM

Jeez you don't need to be a hipster or like Haim to know that Billy Joel & The Eagles suck you just need ears.. Just the way you are is a horrible song and will always be.. Paul McCartney has had more memorable farts than that schmaltzy piece of crap

This motherfucker is the only person on this thread that I agree with 100%. Pay attention.

this whole comments thread is fucking embarrassing

This was the worst Saturday Night Live I've seen in 30 years. Not one funny skit.. Haim sucks. They make weird ugly faces when they are howling. They repeat the same phrase throughout their song, so BASICALY its one small fragmented sentence over and over while theyhack on guitars and swing their hair. Horrible

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2013 1:05 AM

haim sucks duh but that sketch using the outfield song was pretty amazing

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2013 1:24 AM

10:14pm you have no concept of what great music is.

Keep being ass-sore over music before 1990 burying music from 1990 on.

Posted by D | November 24, 2013 3:09 AM

like I will never need to explain why they are so cool like..I mean I'll just show them this video lol and Jorma is hilarious !!
