Pop. 1280 at Public Assembly in 2012 (more by Erez Avissar)
Pop 1280

The Trans-Pecos, as originally defined in 1887 by the Texas geologist Robert T. Hill, is the portion of Texas that lies west of the Pecos River. The term is considered synonymous with "Far West Texas", a subdivision of West Texas. The Trans-Pecos is part of the Chihuahuan Desert, the second largest desert in North America. It the most mountainous and arid portion of the state, and most of its area (outside of the city of El Paso) is vast and sparsely populated, comprising seven of the ten largest counties by area in Texas. The area is well known for the natural beauty of the Big Bend, and has one of the highest proportions of publicly owned land in the continental US. [Wikipedia]
As discussed, Todd P is opening a new venue in the old Silent Barn space (915 Wyckoff Ave), and we now know that the new venue will be called Trans Pecos and it opens on December 5 with the previously discussed Gnaw / Psalm Zero / Notekillers show. It's a Northern Spy-presented show, and according to the flyer (pictured below), Northern Spy will be doing "Thursdays @ Trans Pecos." One of the only another announced shows at the moment is one the following Thursday, December 12 with Pop. 1280, Ukiah Drag, Herzog Rising, and Nick Klein. Doors for both of those shows are at 8 PM, with the music starting at 9. $8 at the door gets you in.

Peter Kerlin Octet, Sunwatchers, and Platinum Vision play Trans Pecos on Saturday, 12/14. That's all the shows we know about at the moment.

As you may know, Silent Barn moved and is currently open in its new Bushwick Ave location.

So basically, more of the same from Todd P, which I guess I'm fine with.

Not to get off subject, but the last time I went to a Todd P venue, there was this really annoying couple that was not only speaking throughout the entirety of the set but talking about information not best to be discussed publicly. "My seven and one-half inches, did it please you? My seven and one-half inches, did it please you?" Yeah, bro, you're cool.

ToddP killed Kennedy, you think the Texas reference in the name of this venue is a coincidence?

Was Mkt Hotel abandoned? I keep reading how there was an anonymous donation for $100k two years ago for MH to be renovated. Since then I haven't seen any updates.

And what the fuck do you do?

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2013 1:29 PM

yeah, seriously, I'm so sick of that Todd P guy organizing diverse, inexpensive musical events, and letting people know about them. What an asshole.

Todd P. is real diverse. Lo-fi bands from Brooklyn = 90% of his bookings.
