What's going on Tuesday? (Kanye & Kendrick, Cut Copy, Metric, Cannibal Ox, Jack White, Midnight Eye & more)

Kanye West at Governors ball 2013 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Kanye

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar @ Barclays Center
Kanye’s got two of the biggest, if not the biggest, rap albums of the current decade under his belt, and an elaborate stage show to deliver the material live. Plus he’s got one of the best current younger rappers opening tonight’s show.

Cut Copy @ Le Poisson Rouge
Australian synth pop band Cut Copy returned with their new album Free Your Mind this year, and tonight they play their first NYC show since its release. It’s a free, intimate, NPR/KCRW taping, and though it’s “sold” out, if you didn’t get tickets you can stream it online.

Metric @ Bowery Ballroom
Speaking of bigger bands in intimate venues, Metric, who just opened for Paramore at MSG and last headlined Radio City Music Hall in NYC, returns for this small show at Bowery Ballroom tonight. Sold out of course.

Mavis Staples @ City Winery
Soul legend Mavis Staples (of The Staple Singers) is still very active, touring consistently and continuing to release new music (including this year’s Jeff Tweedy of Wilco-produced One True Vine). Tonight she returns to NYC for her second time this year for a three-night run at City Winery.

Been Trill, L-Vis 1990, Total Freedom, Purity Ring (DJ Set), MXM / Sang Bleu London @ Output
This whole bill should keep you dancing all night, but it will be especially exciting to see what Purity Ring’s got in store. Their DJ set at CMJ featured some guest appearances and we heard it got pretty crazy.

Lena Dunham, David Sedaris @ Carnegie Hall
Before author and humorist David Sedaris takes over Carnegie Hall by himself, he’ll hook up tonight with Girls creator and star Lena Dunham for “an insightful evening of reading and conversation” on the same stage.

Trademark Da Skydiver, Young Roddy, Ken Rebel, DJ Two Three, Dice The God, Cannibal Ox @ Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Underground hip hop vets Cannibal Ox have been playing shows again lately, and though they don’t headline this one, it’s another chance to see the duo back in action.

Dan Deacon (DJ), Paz @ Cedar Lake
To quote Dan, he’s “DJing a free weird event tomorrow during a video game tournament.” You do need to RSVP.

Jack White, Dean and Scott Blackwood, Daphne A. Brooks, and Greil Marcus @ New York Public Library
This is a discussion about Third Man Records new, massive The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932 box set. Sold out.

Tree, Illmind @ Glasslands
Tree’s been doing pretty well in his local Chicago hip hop scene, and tonight we’ll get a chance to see him do it in NYC.

Midnight Eye, Blackout, Surgeon, Throaat @ Acheron
Epic shred commence: DC’s Midnight Eye team up with BK’s own Blackout (who have the best band pic ever) and Philly’s Surgeon for a night of trad-leaning, capital-letters Heavy Metal. Extra local support from local black/thrashers Throaat.
