It's been a transitional year for A.V. Club. The print version of The Onion ceased publication, and much of AVC's senior staff jumped ship for Pitchfork's new film site, The Dissolve. And then they got a redesign which is still a little kink-y. But they're still one of the best all-around arts and entertainment sites as far as I'm concerned. Like just about everyone else, they dropped their Best Albums of Year list this week. Due to a few ties, A.V. Club ended up with a 23 album list, topped by Kanye West's Yeezus, which has been hovering around the Top 5s on many lists this list season. Haim's Days are Gone is at #2 and you can check out the whole list below...

It didn't think it was possible after the praise lavished on Vampire Weekend's album, but "Yeezus" is the most ridiculously overrated album of the year. It's not a matter of a good album given too much credit, it's an album that's thoroughly ruined by its terrible, half-assed lyrics.

I like how they're not too pretentious to include both Paramore and Fall Out Boy (I know, I know it's not "indie" or "alternative" so you don't like it).

Lorde is music made by a boring white girl for boring white girls.

the reason they included paramore and fall out boy are so you still assume they're not pretentious

could be the worst year in music ever

Brutal List. If I knew a person with this exact taste I would probably think they were a clown.

Why oh why oh why does everybody like Kanye West? The guy is a freaking clown.

Seriously, just listen to the nonsense this guy spouts in this interview, and I am not even talking about the anti-semitic stuff.

Some albums I am surprised to see missing from most lists this year...

- Phosphorescent
- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
- Atoms For Peace
- Darkside
- Mazzy Star

Ps - Arcade Fire didn't make this list?!

Posted by Anonymous | December 5, 2013 10:10 PM

This is one of the worst lists I've seen so far.

Tim Hecker is the one good thing about this list. That's it.

I was surprised about Locrian being on here, but I forgot that they signed to Relapse. It's a decent record, but definitely not one of the best this year.

Speedy Ortiz above MBV, says it all

fall out boy LOL

People are going to look at this time on planet earth and wonder what the fuck everyone was thinking re: Kanye. ART. HA!

Posted by Anonymous | December 5, 2013 11:56 PM

Locrian is kind of surprising. Figured they would have went with Pinkish Black or Inter Arma.

Top lists of the year for anything are completely arbitrary, as we should all know and accept. Good to see not everyone is bullied into putting Arcade Fire on their list, but definitely some serious exclusions, and some albums that I wouldn't listen to if I had a gun to my head. Waxahatchee has been on every list and hasn't sold out Glasslands or Mercury Lounge yet. Lucius should be on every list.

I though AV Club had better taste.

Posted by Anonymous | December 6, 2013 12:15 PM

931 - yes to Lucius!
