Black Star at Rock the Bells 2011 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Black Star

It was announced over the weekend that Black Star (the duo of Mos Def and Talib Kweli) would be teaming back up for a show at Brooklyn Bowl this Tuesday (12/17). However, not long after being announced, tickets were off sale and then it was announced that the show was cancelled. Brooklyn Bowl tweeted, "Due to circumstances beyond our control, Black Star on Tues, Dec 17 is cancelled. We hope to reschedule & apologize for any inconvenience." And Mos Def posted on his Facebook page, "Attention -- contrary to liars reports there will be no (Blackstar) show at Brooklyn Bowl 12/17. Peace."

Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey) will instead be playing his own show the same night, Tuesday (12/17) at Highline Ballroom, the "only official" Yasiin Bey show in New York on 12/17. Tickets for that show are available.

"No way this show will happen," I thought upon seeing the announcement.

Has Black Star ever actually played a show? Pretty sure they just cancel every time.

Mos Def is an enormous piece of shit. His Highline show will undoubtedly be cancelled as well.

What's the deal with Mos Def regularly canceling shows? The regularity of his shows getting announced and canceled (at least in New York) is incredible.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2013 7:23 PM

Simply - He's a gigantic piece of shit. Fucks over promoters everywhere. Good story online about him screwing over people on an Australian tour.

How he still gets booked is a fucking mystery.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2013 7:56 PM

he really does cancel too much. It's infuriating. What ever happened to that show that was supposed to happen at the Apollo with the big band? fuck you yusef def

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2013 7:56 PM

7:56: Read the article on Mos Def in Australia. That manager got fleeced for no good reason at all. I thought that maybe Mos/Yasiin has some form of chronic fatigue or some other regular illness - but instead it just seems like he cancels these shows on a whim.

How he still gets booked is a mystery - and how the Brooklyn Phil pulled off three shows with him in 2010-11 without any getting canceled is a minor miracle (perhaps the "Artist-in-Residence" title and two of the shows being in hometown Bed-Stuy were factors, but still).

Yngwie is such a talented and perfected guitar player. His Classical Baroque musical influence is so pervasive in his songs and is so pleasing to hear. You can definitely compare him to Mozart and Paganini and he incorporates known classical riffs into his songs. @MrBingping..why would you want to call him names. Do you know him? You can feel how you want and if you don't like, don't listen. If he wasn't a brilliant musician we wouldn't be on youtube watching his music and having this discussion. In my opinion/feeling, his music is brilliant and his technique is perfect. I love his style and sound. I hope Yngwie keeps composing his music wherever it leads him.
