DIIV at Webster Hall in 2012 (more by Dan Bracaglia)
DIIV

We recently mentioned that Perfect Pussy will be playing a New Year's Eve party at Baby's All Right, and that the rest of the lineup was still TBA.

UPDATE: Perfect Pussy dropped off this show, but the rest is intact...

More artists have now been announced and the lineup is looking pretty impressive: reverby indie rockers DIIV, heavy shoegazers Nothing, punky indie rockers Potty Mouth, and still more TBA. Maria Sherman is DJing. Tickets for the show are on sale now, and will include a coconut champagne toast and some sort of open bar (details TBA).

Stream some tracks below...

---

DIIV - "Doused"

Perfect Pussy - I Have Lost All Desire For Feeling

Nothing - "Dig"

Potty Mouth - "Damage"

Can't think of a more depressing way to ring in the new year than this.

No.

#pellycore new yearz

I used to get annoyed by DIIV and all these posts but then I realized, like other annoying NYC bands (remember Friends anyone?) the band will break up in a few years. Plus someone with a heroin habit they likely will not be able to maintain, the writing is on the wall.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:24 PM

When is the kid from Diiv's trial? I imagine he has to be looking at jail time at some point.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:25 PM

next on the bill: Several Decks

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:32 PM

Does DIIV play anywhere else besides NYC?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:33 PM

DIIV's heroin + Perfect Pussy = AIDS.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:42 PM

if i sold coke, id sell a lot of coke here

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:45 PM

Jenn Pelly and Sherman are so "dark" and "feminist"

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:45 PM

this show is for anyone who wants their nye plans cancelled at the last minute.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:52 PM

12:45 by your tone you are clearly a sexist who regularly engages in mansplaining.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 12:59 PM

NOTHING = BRO-GAZE

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 1:14 PM

What else is going on for NYE? Not that I even have options since I have to play this show, just wondering since everyone is mouthing off like this isn't the best thing happening that night. I understand it's annoying that we're playing on New Year's Eve AGAIN, but this is the third year in a row. I guess it's annual at this point kind of like Misfits on Halloween (bad example because I can't take Jerry Only doing vox).

That aside, what's the consensus on Nothing? Probably my favorite modern band right now and super stoked that they were included on the bill.

^Um....Phish at MSG!?!? What kind of drugie are you? Get you head in the game Devin.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:11 PM

Better music/better drugs at Phish

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:26 PM

What's the decks scene like at BAR?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:33 PM

Devin - seems that a few people on this thread are confused. Could you let us know whether coke or decks will be available at your merch table on New Years'?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:43 PM

that isn't Devin lol

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:46 PM

pretty rough year for nye thus far... anyone have more deets on the shabazz show??

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 2:49 PM

I liked Phish's first album, but they really started to bore me as they toned down their Satan imagery that I thought was refreshing in the dual songwriting partnership of Gordon / Anastasia.

Our show is clearly the best thing going on on NYE. If you don't want to come, then don't. I don't understand people who hate on me and my hardworking bandmates. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Skye, Sniper and I will have a great night without all of you trolls there. Serp out.

Posted by Serpent | December 9, 2013 3:37 PM

just when you think things can't get any worse, diiv is playing another NYE show and maria sherman is DJing. it's like a scene from one of my nightmares.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 3:50 PM

"I don't understand people who hate on me and my hardworking bandmates."

Bahahahaha "hardworking"? Dude, you guys clearly pay to play opening slots for other bands (MBV, Blink 182) yet you go far as to diss the band your management or booking agent pay to play for?

Also, your singer gets busted for carrying heroin and you act like it's no big deal. Let me repeat that: YOU ARE IN A BAND WITH A GUY WHO USES HEROIN. THAT IS NOT GOOD.

Finally, those promo photos where you guys try so hard to look like you're not trying aren't helping matters.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:02 PM

I would recommend that Cole brings at least 80 decks for this crowd. Hope he can hide all that in his XXL jumpsuit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:08 PM

don't people have "friends" whose apartments they go to for fun NYE parties? why would I go to a show, you can do that any other night

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:24 PM

Maria Sherman DJ-ing? Expect a lot of One Direction tunes!

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:31 PM

i'm not a big diiv person but anyone who thinks they pay for opening slots is clearly clueless. like them or not they're probably the biggest small band in nyc. so when a big band like mbv or blink comes through and then needs an opener, their agent prob goes "who is cool who will do this show for cheap/exposure?" and you end up with diiv. it's not like some huge band are going to open those shows for cheap.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:31 PM

You can go to friends places for parties plenty of times also. NYE shows are always fun. Maybe not this one, but still.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:32 PM

yeah 4:02 forgot to sign his comment "D"

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:44 PM

Nothing is great but when is this LP actually coming? Any word on a date?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:45 PM

Judging from their set opening for MBV, I'd say probably 2/3 of the band is on heroin, not just the singer.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 4:48 PM

Toro Y Moi says he's into punk & his favorite ever tune of the genre is "Sk8er Boi". He digs the decks too, obviously.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:17 PM

Yeah, heroin is a bad idea. But chill out 4:02. It's not like this dude is the only person who does Heroin. Elton John did tons of heroin, of all people. He publicly admits that, and nobody attacks him. Lou Reed sang a song about doing heroin, and it's regarded as some of his best work. I don't condone drugs, but stop attacking someone's music for their own personal issues. Sucks, but the dude can't publicly comment about it, or else he would. I'm sure there is an explanation. It would be arrogant to assume that all musicians are squeaky clean. The only difference here is that ZCS was caught. Which sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:18 PM

Part 2. We don't know if that dude has an addiction to heroin or not. Maybe he does, maybe not. Maybe he was in he wrong place at the wrong time. But coming from someone who has lost a friend to heroin use, the addiction is a sad, awful place. Nobody feels good about it, and 99.9% wish they could get over it. You are so far removed from the world do think that everyone's decisions are completely rationalized. You probably do things that you wish you could stop doing too. But you're lucky, because it's not a potentially lethal drug.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:24 PM

^^^^you're trying to rationalize with a porcelain hummus platter.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:28 PM

\/\/ hateverrrrr

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:32 PM

i am a person in some way associated with the band DIIV and i am 99% sure i can personally tell who several of these commenters are.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:37 PM

"like them or not they're probably the biggest small band in nyc"

Now THAT is hilarious. "Biggest small band in NYC?" Nice try DIIV band-members/managers/whoever you are.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:39 PM

"D" why are you not signing your posts anymore?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 5:52 PM

^because D is a pussy and is afraid of me.

Posted by jon fleischer | December 9, 2013 5:56 PM

@539 i wrote that and am not affiliated at the all with the band.. in fact have never even listened to their full record. it's not like the national or mgmt are going to open that blink show. like them or not.. diiv were the biggest new nyc band in the last year.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 6:03 PM

Elton John, Lou Reed, and the like get a pass because they wrote great, timeless songs to back it up. What does this asshole do, make some shitty repetitive reverby rock that will be completely forgotten in a few years?

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 6:07 PM

Devin from DIIV here. I posted way earlier about Nothing but that other comment was not me. Whoever it was spelled Sky's name wrong and I would NEVER say anything fucking retarded like "Serp Out". Jeez. Also, I FUCKING HATE PHISH. HATE.

In other news, why isn't D signing his posts anymore? What a scrub.

Posted by Serpent | December 9, 2013 6:37 PM

I'm as well closely associated with members of DIIV and no one knows the fuck bk vegan ppl are or care.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 7:15 PM

D is 5:17

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 7:30 PM

Da Fo Real Devin from here. Phish is playing?? Shit, totally spaced that one, bro. Gonna have to tell the boys, we gotta cancel. See you bro-gazers at the show!

Posted by Serpent Gazer | December 9, 2013 7:35 PM

Fuck it, the truth is we paid $2,500 and 15 decks to get the chance to open for Blink 182. I feel so much better having gotten that off my chest. Serp Out.

Posted by Serpent | December 9, 2013 7:40 PM

brooklyn is so fun!!! ! diiv is the most credible band since raediohead and maria sherman is a serious jouranlist who says "EFF U" to corporate interests and always writes OBJECTIVELY about EVERYthing because it's not like she derives a position of power from being friends with all of the rich kid bands she promotes or anything!! :) :)

Posted by Lena Dunham | December 9, 2013 7:54 PM

"YOU ARE IN A BAND WITH A GUY WHO USES HEROIN. THAT IS NOT GOOD."

Uh, pretty much every band with a guy who uses heroin IS good, you straight edge fucktard.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 8:53 PM

It's true, I didn't care much for GG Allin sober.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 9:30 PM

@8:53 fuck yes thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 9:32 PM

Ed from Live here. Anyone remember me? We were about as shitty then as diiv is now. We did pretty well. Peace.

Posted by Trouser Snake | December 9, 2013 9:51 PM

Fat Bro from Friends here. Two years ago we were DIIV, but without ya'know.....decks. Keep on truckin compadres.

Posted by Hoagie | December 9, 2013 10:04 PM

4:02 is on Candid Camera - and has absolutely no idea..

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2013 10:24 PM

Can't think of a more depressing way to ring in the new year than this.

Posted by Only Ted Is Real | December 10, 2013 12:12 AM

Son, my boy D got opinions that destroy you like 42 decks... And his unwavering comment stamina is proof he be shooting up on that golden brown colored hummus with uncut Phyto-Nuttients. Don't f*ck with D, or you get the D in the B... Knameen?

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2013 11:23 AM

I don't think people really care about the drug use.

Dude got caught with enough heroin to send someone away for decades in most parts of the country, and he gets released in a day or so cause he "has a show."

DIIV has released one alright record, yet constantly booked on high profile NYC shows, and publicly moans about stuff like band finances and playing SXSW in Pitchfork interviews.

Press like that will turn people against you pretty fast.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2013 3:09 PM

That twink has to be snitchin. No way he didn't roll on someone.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2013 3:26 PM

Dudes in Nothing are slingin diesel, that's why they got picked for this show.

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2013 8:43 PM

My fossil eats your diiving gear, broskurrs! Let's crank it up...dunnna dunnnna bowwow

Posted by Beach Fossils | December 10, 2013 9:28 PM

pretty sure dudes in Nothing were making fun of diiv when busted for H but are now sucking up hard... nice one fellas

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2013 1:42 PM

Why are people shitting on Maria Sherman? She's more than capable of DJing a kickass show, just listen to her old radio show on WNYU. Maria's awesome, and I would go to this show just to see her.

Posted by anonymous | December 12, 2013 1:29 PM

Maria Sherman thinks Hoax is a good band, and that's more than enough to write someone off.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2013 1:36 PM

it was really really fun. DIIV was amazing. everyone went crazy for them

Posted by Anonymous | January 5, 2014 4:32 AM

some serious idiot commenters here. There are indeed similarities with early U2. Remember that without your mentioned Joy Division there would be no U2. U2 was a post punk band that just finally got to play arenas and then started sucking major fucking ass in late 90s.
