Nest releasing an EP (stream new track "Father Adder")
by Andrew Sacher
One of the more influential bands of late has been ’90s-era rockers Hum, whose injection of shoegaze and post-rock into their bashing alt-rock formula has been showing up in Balance & Composure, certain Title Fight songs, and more. Another new band to pick up on this sound is Nashville four-piece Nest. The band are planning to release a new EP, Hadal, on January 14 via Broken Circles (pre-order), and its lead track, “Father Adder,” makes its premiere in this post. The song starts out with hushed, airy vocals and a bell-like melody that sounds like Sigur Ros might be an influence here too. But it’s not long before the wall-of-sound guitars come piling on and passionate post-hardcore howls enter, making “Father Adder” a big a punch of atmospheric rock that holds up against a lot of the bands that paved the path for this kind of thing.
