Nirvana

The Rock and Hall of Fame 2014 nominees were announced this past October, and now the inductees have been announced. Rolling Stone reports that Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt will all now be rock hall of famers. Additionally, The E Street Band will be presented with the Award for Musical Excellence, and Brian Epstein (Beatles manager) and Andrew Loog Oldham (original Rolling Stones manager) will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

The induction ceremony takes place in Brooklyn on April 10 at Barclays Center, yet another high profile event happening at the new arena which also hosted the MTV Video Music Awards this year and which just announced a big show with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Tickets will be available in January, and it will air on HBO in May.

Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance celebrated its 20th anniversary over the weekend. Watch that in full below...

Will Courtney be there?

It is RIDICULOUS that Nirvana is in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame on only THREE albums put out in a four-year span including ONE hit album which didn't even win a Grammy.

'Band was a fluke because their album after that hit album came nowhere close to selling as well as the first one.

If Cobain didn't kill himself this band would've never been a nominee, there I said it.

Their induction is based solely on the commercial success of Nevermind and the image they had besides that mainstream rock 'n' roll began it's descent into a sorry-assed state of affairs starting in I'd say 1988.

D thinks hardcore is good music.

^someone was looking for some attention this morning. Nirvana is the voice of a generation. That is all. Congrats!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:02 AM

Milk It with PJ Harvey would've been rad, but I can understand not wanting to be a part of a circus

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:04 AM

I'd buy uppers for $75 a ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:04 AM

Nirvana is the voice of a generation, a generation of cynical drug addicts with persistent motivation and achievement issues.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:17 AM

If Jann don't like you, you don't get in!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:38 AM

8:51 and 9:17 are the same douchebag and they are miscreant little people.

i'd also bet they're rush fans (or jealous kiss fans, pissed it took this ling to let in a piece of $hit "band" that always was and always will be a JOKE.

nirvana>ANYTHING the above mentioned clowns have ever listened to or will ever listen to.

there i said it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:40 AM

Will Kiss even show up?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:42 AM

replacements and the zombies shut out? garbage. same hollywood bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:51 AM

Kiss? Give me a break.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:00 AM

Nirvana has about the same musical value as Kiss in 2013, sorry to the guy above who can't get over being a loser in high school.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:12 AM

KISS is like grape soda w a turd floating around in it.

Nirvana is like hummus made from organic chickpeas.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:20 AM

Maybe they'll get Macualay to sing "Scentless Apprentice" at the ceremony.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:20 AM

And Kiss gets in over Yes. JOKE

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:48 AM

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame pretty much cemented their status as totally irrelevant when they let the fucking Red Hot Chili Peppers in.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:53 AM

KISS absolutely deserves to get in, 100%. I'm not a fan of their music, but yet I understand their significance and how much they've influenced the "big production" arena rock show. Also, how much influence they've had on other hard rock bands. Just about any hard rock band that came out of the 80s or 90s probably listened to KISS as kids.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 10:59 AM

bv must be a kiss fan. keeps blocking my comment bashing them (13 times now).

internet freedom!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:00 AM

11:00, if you used the words "s-e-l-l out", that's probably why you were blocked.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:03 AM

I hope they never let Journey, Foreigner, or Bon Jovi into the Hall of Fame.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:06 AM

9:38, that used to be the case, but I think they allow one of the bands to be selected by fans, which is how KISS finally got in. Jann and KISS do not like each other.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:08 AM

Now THAT'S what I call some inductions.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:12 AM

You guys dogging KISS are nuts. Hell...I just assumed they were already in the R&R Hall Of Fame.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:17 AM

Linda Ronstadt--thank god. Long overdue.

Posted by Smack | December 17, 2013 11:17 AM

I can't believe the greatness of the spinz hasn't been noticed yet. must be that pokket ful of cryptonite!

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:26 AM

If the morons posting here don't understand the influence Kiss and Nirvana had on music when they were in their prime then really, go to Z100's blog and comment there. You'll all be happy in 18 years when Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus get in.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:31 AM

didn't use that word, 11:03, but it is embarrassingly obvious for bv that they don't want to post a msg bashing kiss (without any profanities or otherwise).

i copied the page and comments and posted then elsewhere.

the word is out.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:32 AM

Some one called Kiss a grape soda with a turd in it. I think that qualifies as bashing.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:35 AM

must make someone feel very important to respond with:

Thank you for commenting.
Your comment has been received and held for approval by the blog owner

after repeated posts bashing kiss.

C'mon you all know that the HOF means nothing. It's a yearly music show, that's about it. Not like the legacies of these bands get any better or worse by having a plaque in Cleveland.

Donna Summer got in right after she died.
Linda Ronstadt is getting in because she might die soon.

I think it should just be enjoyed as simply the best rock and roll show on TV each year, compared to the abominations that are the Grammys and AMA's.

Nirvana influenced an entire generation. So did the Sex Pistols (with one album).

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:54 AM

(continued from 11:54)

KISS - this is where you see the HOF is just a rock and roll celebration show, not always a merit to the music. We all know KISS was influential Ace and Peter left, but afterwards became a parody of themselves. Going to be interesting how its handled as I doubt they would ever be invited to perform with Gene and Paul ever again. Much like the Blondie debacle.
But Paul trashing Patti Smith and comparing her to Pete Seeger?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 11:58 AM

Gene and Paul do not hate Ace and Peter. They are just too cheap to pay them properly. I don't think they will deprive Ace and Peter, nor deprive KISS fans of seeing Ace and Peter accept the entry into the HOF. IF they do, then Gene really is a supreme scumbag.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 12:30 PM

Agnostic Front snubbed again :(

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 12:45 PM

I would consider it an honor to be prepared to Pete Seeger. The guy is like 92 and still chops his own firewood to heat his place upstate.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 12:54 PM

Has anyone interviewed Dave Marsh about KISS finally getting in?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 1:35 PM

cat stevens caused 911

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2013 9:53 PM

LOL Cat Stevens, who agreed that the fatwa against Salman Rushdie was correct and that he should be put to death because he wrote a book that was supposedly blasphemous?? Fuck him.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2013 7:32 AM

My political views tend to lean towards the left, but this is where I hate liberals. How does Cat Stevens get a pass, when he's endorsing fatwas against people who write books?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2013 9:40 AM

Cat Stevens should not be allowed into the HOF simply because his name is Cat. Stupid. Who names their kid Cat? "Hey meet my kid...Cat", no wonder flipped out.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2013 8:41 PM

^ You have a good point.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2013 8:30 AM

didn't he change his name to something like yusef islam?

I went to the R&R HOF once, it was ok nothing too great

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2013 9:13 AM

Girl named Cat, or Kat, ok. Boy, no.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2013 9:15 AM

Why are people commenting about One Direction and Justin Bieber, on a song that has no relation whatsoever towards either. The hate towards One Direction and Justin is old now stop wasting your time, life and hate. They're gonna be around for a long time whether you like it or not.
