Stars of the Lid

Veteran ambient duo Stars of the Lid played their first US shows in five years this month, including the Kranky 20th Anniversary shows in Chicago and a NYC show on Tuesday (12/17) at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Brooklyn, a beautiful environment for their sound. The duo was accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra, and used the opportunity to play almost all new material. They played almost completely in the dark, with projections and fog taking over the visual element of the show. The crowd seemed into it too, staying quiet and respectful the whole show, including during opener Justin Walter. Pictures of the show are in this post.

They continue below...

"The crowd seemed into it too, staying quiet and respectful the whole show"

The NYC concert crowd was well-behaved. They received a communal gold star and cookie.

Ps- thank you all for STFU for once and not ruining this excellent performance.

I figured anyone who would be at a SOTL show would know to keep quiet. Thankfully I was correct.

Phenomenal show! Sounds, projections...everything was perfect....and they opened with "Requiem for Dying Mothers". One of the best shows I've ever been to.

Big respect to Justin Walker who opened the show with a fantastic set. He really started the night off with a great pace for things to follow. Killer show!

wow, the Brooklyn Diocese must be hurting for money - i would never in a million years ever think they would open the church up for this type of event - i'm bummed i didn't know about it
guess reports of bay ridge becoming another neighborhood becoming part of williamsburg is true - no complaints from me :)

Mr. Sniffles was there. I wonder if he can be heard on the recording?

Awesome show. Awesome venue. The best part about the church was that they could have the funerals right after the show for all the people in the audience that died of boredom and/or pretentiousness. Let's not forget the 3 guys that died from too much beard.
