"We could have easily been a post-modern machine and stayed within the parameters of other individuals' standards perpetuated mostly by music journalists," singer Ian Astbury said by phone from his Los Angeles home. "We thought that was nonsense. I always considered music to have a visceral aspect to it."The Cult wrap up their "Electric 13" tour this week where they're playing their classic 1986 album in full. That tour hit the NYC area for two shows earlier this month, playing NJ's Wellmont Theatre on 12/5 and the Paramount in Long Island on 12/6. In addition to playing Electric in full, they did a second full set with songs from their rest of their albums, like goth classic "She Sells Sanctuary." Setlist and pictures from their Wellmont show in this post.
For Astbury, following his instincts was a good idea. "Electric" is now viewed as The Cult's pivotal album that set the groundwork for the band's 30-year career. The Cult will perform "Electric" in its entirety during its show Thursday in Montclair.
"We aren't doing this tour to celebrate any anniversary or be nostalgic," Astbury said. "We wanted to keep the band performing in between albums, and [guitarist Billy Duffy] suggested we do 'Electric.' " - [NorthJersey.com]
When the tour is over, The Cult go back into the studio to cut the band's 10th album. Stay tuned for more on that. Meanwhile, check out more pics from The Cult's Wellmont show below...
