We are not long from having every '90s band reunited. We just posted about Veruca Salt's original line-up getting back together and now comes word that Matt Sharp is reopening The Rentals counter with a new line-up of the band and a new album -- their first in 15 years -- due on Polyvinyl sometime next year.

The Rentals, which Sharp started as a Weezer (who are also planning a new album) side project before quitting that band in 1997, have been back in sporadic action since 2006, occasionally playing shows. Previous line-ups featured Petra Hayden and Maya Rudolph, but the new one is this: Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig (Lucius), Ryen Slegr (Ozma), Lauren Chipman (The Section Quartet) and Patrick Carney (The Black Keys). The new album was recorded in Los Angeles, Nashville and New York City and was produced by Matt Sharp & The Rentals.

No other details have been released. While we wait for those, what other '90s bands would you like to see reunite? I'm still hoping for Ride.

Return of the Rentals was great, everything after it was like Matt Sharp wasn't in on the joke. Shame because that first album really is great.

7 more minutes is solid

I love how everyone hates on Carney because his band got huge. The guy is a fucking amazing drummer

I hate on Carney because him and his band are fucking boring. I've never been able to sit through an entire Black Keys album, even the early ones. Also, he's not very good on drums. Slightly above Meg White.

Plus, dude is kind of a prick. Shitty rock star attitude even before his band was big.

I bought that songs of time box set years back and its supposed to come with 2 backstage passes to an "upcoming Rentals event." I wonder how I am supposed to redeem those, since pretty much everything associated with that project got disabled!

funny, I was thinking about return of the rentals the other day - I got that album in 6th grade, listened to friends of p and then it collected dust for a few years, went back to it and realized it's a really good album, seven more minutes was ok, maybe I should give it a re-listen
