Karen O

The 2014 Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning, with American Hustle and Gravity leading the way with 10 each. On the musical tip, The Arcade Fire's Will Butler and Owen Pallett were nominated for the score to Spike Jonze's Her, and Karen O got nominated for "Moon Song" from Her which she co-wrote with Jonze. Also: Pharrell Williams got a nomination for "Happy" from Despicable Me 2 as did U2's "Ordinary Love" from Mandella: Long Walk to Freedom (which won the Golden Globe on Sunday).

One movie that might seem missing from the Best Original Song category is the Coen Brothers Inside Llewyn Davis but almost all the songs from the film were traditional folk, which is why its novelty song "Hey Mr. Kennedy" got a Golden Globe nomination. The Oscars will be given out Sunday, March 2. Full list of 2014 Oscar Nominations and a stream of Karen O's "Moon Song" below...

as a film inside llewyn davis is the emperor's new clothes. and that's coming from an enormous coen brothers fan.

but the music was pretty good... there had to be something worth a nomination...

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:25 PM

wow, a whopping %15 of the acting nominees are black this year. I'm impressed, Academy. One black director, too. Astonishing.

"as a film inside llewyn davis is the emperor's new clothes"

No.

"wow, a whopping %15 of the acting nominees are black this year. I'm impressed, Academy. One black director, too. Astonishing."

Lol! And you know 12 Years A Slave wins Best Picture, mostly due to white guilt

"One movie that might seem missing from the Best Original Song category is the Coen Brothers Inside Llewyn Davis"

It's actually missing from pretty much every category

"20 Feet from Stardom" Nominees to be determined"
They still haven't figured out who directed this movie?

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:39 PM

Morgan Neville. A nice guy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:43 PM

Yeah, Its about time the academy gave Tyler Perry his due.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:45 PM

White guilt, my ass. 12 Years a Slave is a great movie on every level.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:46 PM

best military propaganda film: captain phillips

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:54 PM

Did anyone else find American Hustle completely over-rated?

It's a fun movie, but I didn't think it was Best Picture and 10 nominations worthy

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 12:57 PM

the praising of "12 Years a Slave" for its brutal portrayal of slavery is nicely counterbalanced by the praising of "Captain Phillips" for its brutal portrayal of those scary, wide-eyed, black as night pirates.

I dunno man, American Hustle was pretty effin' great. Everyone in it was great, even Bradley Cooper who I normally despise.

Ctl+F "James Franco" = Not found

This list is bullshit. Did these jokers not see Spring Breakers?

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 2:48 PM

1:07 missed the whole point of Captain Phillips.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 2:49 PM

Inside Llewyn Davis svcked. her svcked.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 5:04 PM

Inside Llewyn Davis did not suck. u suck. her did suck though.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 5:14 PM

You're both wrong. Inside Her was a great movie.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2014 5:49 PM

Good pack this year. I'm dumbfounded Joaquin got snubbed - he must have insulted Harvey or something, cause that performance against basically a blue screen was note perfect. Total bullshit.
