Duuli and Odenkirk chillin' at Sundance '14 (via)
IMAGE

Indie rock vets The Afghan Whigs reunited for ATP and a tour back in 2012 and recorded a couple studio covers (one being Frank Ocean's "LoveCrimes"). You may have noticed they're on the bill for this year's Coachella. There's more news, they've got a new album coming "soon." The breaker of this news was Mr. Show/Breaking Bad actor Bob Odenkirk, who tweeted the above picture of him hanging with main Whig Greg Duuli at this year's Sundance Film Festival, with the following message:

The great Greg Dulli of whom I am a fan tells me new Afghan Whigs album coming soon. 1st in 16 years! Kickass.
That's all the news so far. Are you excited?

The band has been posting photos from the studio for the better part of a year. This isn't really news. A release date will be news.

Love the AWs but no Rick McCollum no Afghan Whigs, period

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 4:55 PM

dang Dulli looks awful

Hope its true, love the Afghan Whigs, I saw their show in Williamsburg and it was amazing, hell almost anything Greg Dulli does is amazing. The few songs they released since "reforming" were pretty good but they were always more of an album band can't wait to see what they create, hopefully its more like "Congregation" then "1965".

4:55, if you went to any of the shows, McCollum is there.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 5:35 PM

5:35 if you've seen any of the pics posted by Dulli from the studio over the last 6 months you would know that he's not there. Do come back soon.

The dude has been writing music longer than most of you cock smooches have been on the planet, so of course he looks old. However, he is still debonair like a queer

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 5:43 PM

dulli looks like he manages a TGIFridays

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 5:57 PM

I actually liked 1965 great album

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 6:03 PM

5:40 Maybe he was there and they just didn't take photos of him. Do come back soon, son.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 6:08 PM

4:55 is right if he's right. McCollum gives it that crackle. although 5:40 may have a point to, as Rick is definitely the scariest looking Afghan Whigs. Radio handsome 15 years ago, might look like an upside down broom now.

Either way, vive les Afghans!

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 7:18 PM

6:08 Yes true, maybe he's there along with the Easter bunny and Mohammed and Charlie Manson, but they weren't in the dozen odd pictures Dull shared, which you doubtlessly saw not a one of. Oh, and thanks for imitating my closing - just shows you lack class or originality also with being an argumentative asshole and a dumbass.

Clear enough for you now, Cupcake?

I really think summa ya need to be institutionalized and put under an aggressive pharmacotherapeutic regimen. Summa ya sociopaths, straight up.

Also, this is mindblowingly good news.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 9:08 PM

Roaster is no McCollum

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 9:26 PM

@8:49 Congregation is a good one, but for my money Black Love is the shit. That's the one that just doesn't stop.

Honky's Ladder .... 'nuff said

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2014 9:53 PM

1965 is their best. Dulli agrees.
Best news of year thus far, though yes, we have seen it coming with the studio photos.

Fat Greg Dulli zine releasing a new issue "soon"

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2014 12:06 AM

^ I remember that. That writer had his panties all knotted up over Dulli, probs because Greg boned his girlfriend of something. if there is a next issue these BV trolls are going to learn what real snark is all about. Perez Hilton is a powder puff girl compared to Fat Greg Dulli.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2014 12:28 AM

Whigs still killed it live post-Gentlemen but fo' real, my shit is Congregation (dark as fuck) and Up In It (kinda 'Mats/grunge hybrid) and I dig that college rock type shit Big Top Halloween.

FAT GREG DULLI hell yeah

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2014 4:05 AM

Gentlemen is their best. No debate.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2014 11:53 AM

I think that we can all agree that there is not a weak album in the bunch and that this is welcomed news. Glasses up, gentlemen ...

Not without his cocaine superpowers!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2014 9:25 PM

seek out the video on YouTube of Miles Iz Ded from Bowery Ballroom and see the very first public performance of Into The Floor. That was pure magic.

yo almost forgot about Uptown Avondale. Best cardboard pocket-packaged EP of the mid-90s.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2014 6:02 AM

Based on their shows last year: the Whigs are still killin' it. When you ladies can top it, come forward. Until then, go back to the practice room.

7:19, you take anonymous commenting on the internet way too seriously.

If irony were money 6:39 would be a rich man.
