Pixies in Northampton earlier this week (more by Dana (distrotion) Yavin)
Pixies

You may know that Bang On A Can's marching band Asphalt Orchestra often covers the Pixies and just celebrated the 25th anniversary of their 1988 album Surfer Rosa by performing it in full at Le Poisson Rouge last Sunday (1/12), and they're now taking the Pixies love one step further. Asphalt Orchestra will actually open for the Pixies on the Capitol Theatre (1/19) and NJPAC (1/21) stops on their ongoing tour. That means you'll hear marching band versions of the Pixies songs before hearing the actual Pixies songs. The Cap show appear sold out, but tickets for the NJ show (which also has FIDLAR on the bill) are still available.

Watch a video of Asphalt Orchestra playing "Where is My Mind" at Lincoln Center Out of Doors 2013 below...

Marching band versions? Don't you mean orchestral versions? Not sure which is worse but there's a difference.

worst idea... ever? Maybe if they played songs not on the setlist or something... otherwise, I don't get it.

Wow, no Pixies bashing yet. 4 comments in, that's like a world record or something.

1152, agreed, I would hope they consult with the Pixies beforehand and play songs that the pixies aren't playing, but what do I care I'm not going anyway

Considering the pixies play wave of mutilation five times in their set anyway, this won't be out of place

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2014 12:47 PM

there are 2 versions of Wave Of Mutilation. As much as I love that song, I never understood why they needed to play both versions during the same show.

Same reason the Stooges play I Wanna Be Your Dog twice... because it's awesome.
