Hop Along at BV-CMJ 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Hop Along

We at BrooklynVegan are thrilled to announce that we've teamed up with Shiner and Transmission Events to put on a free show in Brooklyn on February 24 at Saint Vitus. Some pretty exciting bands currently from (or at one point tied to) the Philly indie rock scene are coming over for the show, including Hop Along, Swearin', and Great Thunder (aka Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield and Keith Spencer of Swearin'/Waxahatchee's live band). The show is totally FREE, though you do need RSVP, but "RSVP admission is on a first come first served basis, subject to capacity of the venue." Flyer below.

Swearin' also have other dates, and Hop Along also open for Paint It Black soon.

Streams from all three bands and the show flyer below...

Hop Along - "Tibetan Pop Stars"

Swearin' - "Dust in the Gold Sack"

Great Thunder - "Virgin Snow"

When I saw these guys open for mewithoutYou (first of three bands) at Amos' South End in Charlotte, many of us weren't expecting much. They opened with "Some Grace." Frances was the only one on stage, I thought that she was some sort of pre-act when she started. There was a lot of chatter, but we one by one quieted down to hear her oddly fetching, seemingly-amateur act. As we listened it became apparent that she wasn't just some band-member's sister that got a chance to perform on stage; She was the first act, and she was the real deal. Her subtle nuances in voice and guitar, her energetic sincerity was more than enough to easily capture the attention of the entire venue in a few dozen seconds at most.
