Janelle Monae at The Apollo in 2013 (more by Luis Ruiz)
Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae's upcoming show schedule was set to include three NYC shows: a Super Bowl weekend show, opening night of Celebrate Brooklyn! at Prospect Park on June 4, and the Hammerstein Ballroom show on 2/1 with Schoolboy Q, Just Blaze, and others, but unfortunately, the Hammerstein Ballroom show has been cancelled. "Refunds at Point of Purchase only. Internet & Phone orders will automatically be canceled & refunded." Bummer.

In related news, Janelle will be appearing on an episode of Sesame Street. Via Huffington Post:

During the episode, which is scheduled to air during the show's 45th season this September, the multi-talented CoverGirl spokesperson will perform the show's empowerment anthem, "The Power of Yet."

"I am so excited to be living one of my dreams, to be here on 'Sesame Street,"' she said while promoting the episode in a behind-the-scenes clip. "I'm here because I am teaching everybody on Sesame Street the importance and the power of 'yet'. Never, ever, ever give up because there's so much power in 'yet'."

You can watch a preview of that below.

Schoolboy Q

And in more related news, Schoolboy Q has revealed more details on his much-anticipated album, Oxymoron, which is due out on February 25 via Interscope. That's the album artwork for the regular version above, and you can check out the artwork for the deluxe version below. The album is also available for preorder on iTunes, where the tracklist reveals it features previously-released singles "Collard Greens" and "Man of the Year," plus new Alchemist-produced single "Break The Bank" which you can stream below.

Poor ticket sales? Janelle has a good voice; her songs don't knock me over. She has some decent ones, but I don't think the support is there for a Hammerstein show.

She's pregnant. It's her first and she needs bed rest.

I don't believe that one bit, 10:00. It's part of a tour, and shes still doing the other dates that week.

I agree with 6:24. Janelle is super-talented, but she is not a great songwriter yet. Great live act, though. She needs another hit.

I really love this video and song. There really needs to be more videos like this. Videos and songs with a message, a purpose, and a meaning. Bullying is a truly ugly thing, but what I love about this video is that the kids came together to be a support system, and came together against the bullies and prevailed. There's always this message that kids just get beat up, and there's nothing done. But in this case, something was done, and it wasn't even really violent, and that's great.
