DOWNLOAD: Josh Ritter - "A Certain Light (Acoustic)" (MP3)

Josh Ritter @ T5, May 2013 (more by Robert Altman)
Josh Ritter

We already let you know Josh Ritter was going on an acoustic tour this year with Gregory Alan Isakov which hits NJ on Saturday (1/11) at South Orange Performing Arts Center (tickets) and will wrap up in NYC at Town Hall on March 7. There are "not many" tickets left for Town Hall, according to Ticketmaster, and Ritter has added an acoustic show happening the next night (3/8) at Music Hall of Williamsburg that's also with Isakov. You can get presale tickets for that show right now through Ritter's website; then tickets go on AmEx presale via Ticketmaster on Wednesday (1/8) at noon with regular sale beginning Friday (1/10) at noon.

Josh Ritter's most recent album is The Historical Conquests and you can download an acoustic version of "A Certain Light" at the top of this post and check out the horror-homage video for "Evil Eye," along with the list of tour dates, below...

His most recent album is "The Beast In Its Tracks".

Since it's not 2007, his latest album is actually The Beast in Its Tracks.

His show at Town Hall a few years ago was incredible.

I am going to pass on the acoustic show though. I am a full-band type of guy

It's funny that you think that this is how the business works.

While ritter with the royal city band shows are excellent, his solo shows are also very, very special.

Did anybody actually secure a ticket yesterday on his site?

First there was no option to get a ticket on the page. Then a "find a ticket" button showed up and all it did was redirect to ticketmaster where they have the am ex presale today.

So actually Josh Ritter is related to neither John Ritter nor Jason Ritter.

His parents are both neuroscientists who live in Idaho.

But he is an incredible performer and if you are a music lover in any capacity, you should go to a show of his. "The Beast in Its Tracks" is his latest album, but "Hello Starling" might be the most accessible and also has some of his best writing.

Unfortunately I agree with OP. Objectively speaking, his musical skills are, to put it diplomatically, unpolished. Having a live set that's improvised and a little rough around the edges is one thing, but if you're just having difficulty playing your part, that's another. Bob Dylan is a good example of an "unpolished" musician, but he got away with it by being a great lyricist. To me at least, neither Josh Ritter's melodies nor his lyrics really move me. The result being, IN MY OPINION (don't forget that part), there's nothing really redeeming about his performance.
