Kim Gordon on 'Girls'
Kim Girls

HBO series Girls was nominated for two Golden Globes but didn't win either on last night's awards ceremony. (The show lost to Brooklyn Nine Nine and Lena Dunham lost to Amy Poehler [who also co hosted the GGs].) At the same time elsewhere on the television dial, Girls made its Season 3 premiere with two back-to-back episodes. We knew this was coming but didn't know when -- the first episode featured Sonic Youth / Body/Head's Kim Gordon as Mindy, a member of Jessa's (Jemima Kirke) support group at rehab. The two don't get along. This is actually the third show with "Girl" in the title Gordon has acted in (the others being Gossip and Gilmore) but this is by far the meatiest part she's played. HBO has the whole premiere episode up on its YouTube channel to watch for free.

Meanwhile, a second soundtrack from the, titled Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do, will be released February 11 and features music by Vampire Weekend, Lily Allen, Beck, Cat Power, Jake Bugg, Aimee Mann and more. One of the tracks exlusive to the soundtrack is Jenny Lewis' "Completely Not Me" which features in the second episode's closing credits, is apparently a collaboration with Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij. You can listen to that over at Entertainment Weekly. Tracklist for the soundtrack is below.

In related news, while not the song from the Girls soundtrack, Lily Allen has released a new track, "Air Balloon," from her forthcoming new album and that can be streamed below.

Oh god I this show is the epitome of ignorant privileged white feminism.

Obama was briefed that Bengazi was absolutely a terrorist attack with 2 hours of the event, the. he went to sleep for 10 hours, and upon waking up he flies to Las Vegas for a fundraiser.

This guy needs to find some other place to work out his daddy issues, some place where he can do less damage to others.

^^ Who cares?

Prediction - Thurston goes back to Kim in 2017, and they release an album together "Final Fantasy"

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2014 10:01 PM

Kim Gordon is pretty much the poster child for the saying "rode hard and put away wet a few times too many"

CHRISTIE MUST GO

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2014 10:13 PM

^ no one cares

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2014 10:25 PM

At least we know Chris Christy was actually born in the USA, and he's not a fucking gun running communist which puts him head and shoulders over the evil bastard we have now. Truth.

BIG FAT TITTIES YEAAAAHHHHH

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2014 10:48 PM

Ugh, as much as I love the show, I have to admit women don't look very good after 25.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2014 11:34 PM

For all the deed it they get Sonic Youth was never very good. It's just the weird turnings sound odd to the casual music fan, and the lyrics are extremely vague as not to take a stand on anything or offend anyone. They're like a wannabe velvet underground without the edges lyrics. I mean the song "flower" is a very embarrassing attempt at feminism (I'm a woman) that basically says men are more powerful an women need to use male power to succeed. I was always upset by that song.

greatttttttttttttttttttttt we love it

Posted by bags | January 14, 2014 1:17 AM

11:42-- don't you hate it when the iPhone messes up your doctoral thesis on music and feminism?!?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:11 AM

Girls is a feminist action, like eating cake naked on the toilet. The west is doomed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 5:07 AM

#girlstvshowonlymakesmethinklessofthem

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 7:14 AM

Girls has nothing to do with feminism, and everything to do with selfish, entitled assholes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 7:58 AM

who would fuck thurston moore? seriously. you're one screwed chick if you bend over to take the high hard one from that guy. he looks like a plate of dried spaghetti.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 8:02 AM

People in Williamsburg don't like Girls because it reminds them of how awful they are themselves. Whereas Williamsburg residents can laugh off Portlandia, Girls strikes a nerve.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 8:17 AM

^ I am not from Williamsburg and I am repulsed by both shows, and you as well 8:17.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 9:01 AM

Remember when everyone went batshit over flannel? That's Girls in about a year.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 9:05 AM

^ Girls has come and gone man... It reached its peak last year I think, now all I hear is complaining.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 9:29 AM

LMFAO Anon 8:02

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 10:11 AM

I second 9:01. All Girls does is glorify a bunch of spoiled entitled brats who are about as deep as a birdbath. The feminism angle is played to basically get people to talk about it. I feel like the show actually sets women back, but that's just me.

But agreed, it probably does hit a nerve with a lot of the twentysomething hipsters in Bushwick/Williamsburg/BedSty that have their parents pay their bills/rent so they can continue their $400/week coke habits

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 10:27 AM

Newark is the new Williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 12:23 PM

IT'S A SATIRE

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 12:47 PM

Satire of privileged women?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 1:31 PM

Did Kim play someone's grandma on that repulsive show?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 1:58 PM

so, yall are calling it satire now? hahaha! keep finding ways to justify an awful show

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 2:26 PM

I don't have a $400 a week coke habit, but do have an $80 a week hummus habit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 2:55 PM

I love it when shit that's not funny and bombs gets played off as irony or "satire" with some feigned attempt to make it seem that if you don't see that you are somehow missing the non-joke.

Sorry kids, that emperor has ridden down these streets before you were born.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 3:33 PM

255 You also have a habit of saying dumb things.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:20 PM

@4:20 likes to pretend she knows all about anonymous people

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:30 PM

I bet 4:20 feels empowered and enlighten in her white privileged skin watching this show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:37 PM

I like to feel superior to others

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:47 PM

437 I've never seen that stupid show and I'm sure that I never will. TV shows like that are for idiots. Now go ahead and say something idiotic that's not at all funny.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 4:58 PM

It's not a real show until Fred Armisen guests on it

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 5:06 PM

^Armisen guest staring on Girls could bring about here before unseen heights of unfunny.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 5:25 PM

It would probably be one of those edgy scenes where Fred Armisen jizzes on some white girls hair.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 5:31 PM

@5:25 kind of like a typical BV comments section?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 5:42 PM

542 Exactly! Over the years I've maybe read 2-3 funny comments. The rest are your typical dumb, smarmy attempts at humor that fail miserably.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2014 10:32 PM

^^ you need to seriously lighten up. This is New York City not Omaha

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2014 9:23 AM

Nebraska is funny

Just the concept of a state in the middle of nowhere, windswept and smelling like cow shit all over. People actually choose to live there. That's funny.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2014 9:47 AM

947 Thanks for proving my point!

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2014 1:23 PM

I'm detecting M.I.A.'s influence on this album. Not sure how much I like the direction she is taking her music. It is boardering on being a little too commercial sounding.
