Parquet

Parquet Courts had a pretty good 2013. Their debut album, Light Up Gold, ended up on a lot of Best Of lists (even though it came out in August 2012),  their new EP, Tally All The Things That You Broke, was a quality follow-up and they went from being openers to headliners. As a capper, last night (1/9) the Brooklyn-based band made their network television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, playing the jammy, highly-quotable "Stoned and Starving." You can watch that below.

Parquet Courts will play Brooklyn's tiny Acheron on Tuesday (1/14) (sold out) which will serve as a warm-up to some West Coast dates with Destruction Unit (who play Brooklyn tonight) before heading to Australia and New Zealand. Those dates are listed, along with the Fallon video, below...

someone tighten that ship

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:21 AM

They don't pan over to the Roots because they are laughing about that dudes guitar solo. How does a band like this get to play Fallon?

BEST BAND IN THE WORLD

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:28 AM

seriously, if I walked into a bar and a band was playing this song, I would think it is either the worst joke on earth or the worst band ever

really, who allows this garbage to exist?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:30 AM

I work for a major multinational media conglomerate. An owner of many record labels. Every 10 years or so the NY/LA music industry decides to manufacture one of these hickster transplant bands into a semi-success. It's mostly to give hope to the other 10,000 talentless dweebs who show up to NY/LA from flyoverlandia each year. The last time the industry did this was for The National. See the pattern?

embarrassing

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:39 AM

That was a dreadful performance. The album is pretty great though and they are generally much better live. But fuck that was bad.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:44 AM

lol @ 10:36

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:48 AM

Great album, but no one seems to realize that this is the weakest (and longest) song on it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:49 AM

damn, you guys are assholes. i liked it, but I was pretty drunk last night let me review

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:53 AM

and I I thought it couldn't get worse than Wavves

fuck, Is the talent pool in music that fucking bleak, that this can get anykind of exposure?

I saw more skills at my junior high talent show (no joke)

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 10:53 AM

I like the album, but that drummer sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:04 AM

"Great album, but no one seems to realize that this is the weakest (and longest) song on it."

Yup.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:05 AM

Enough with the Queens shout outs.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:14 AM

You guys should all post your band's awesome clips on Fallon just for the sake of comparison

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:25 AM

Thurston Moore looks good for his age, tho, no?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:37 AM

Hands down this is the best band out there today. It won't be long before everyone else catches up and figures out the same.
girl group that rocks hard > guys that try to hard

"Great album, but no one seems to realize that this is the weakest (and longest) song on it."

Right, that's why I've heard that song on various radio stations a million times. Nobody knows it's the worst song but you.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:39 AM

so why they FUCK would they play it on their TV debut @1049

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:41 AM

it is a lot of people's favorite song off the record, and it's got a great riff and lyrics... but then it does jam on for two minutes longer than it maybe should.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:48 AM

I like this band. I like the song. I liked the performance.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:50 AM

Who walks through Ridgewood, Queens?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 12:18 PM

This is great! I always love them!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 12:24 PM

^ thanks for sharing bro!

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 12:33 PM

w/e, i thought the solos were cool

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 12:56 PM

there was nothing wrong with that performance other than the vocals were mixed too high which could be said about 99% of bands on TV. Rock and Roll is supposed to be loose if not go jerk off to Rush.. I'd seriously love to see what you folks who criticize this think is a good rock band these days. Imagine if this site was around when this happened ? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWfg7zpMY1I

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:07 PM

great band. Light Up Gold was one of my favorite records last year. can't wait to see them at Acheron next week.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:22 PM

what's up with it being cool to be bad at guitar????

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:26 PM

hahha, theres no one in the audience !! haha

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:32 PM

what happened to his lip?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:34 PM

The real question is, would Fergus & Geronimo play The Acheron?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:45 PM

what's up with it being cool to be bad at guitar????

How is he bad ?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:46 PM

lol@ "what you folks who criticize this think is a good rock band these days"

still waiting for some answers...

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:48 PM

ya at 3:00 there is noone in the audience??

am i missing something?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 1:50 PM

I love the bitter (former?) industry hack that is wailing against illegal downloading above. At first assholes like him declared that there would be no more music because of downloading.

Now it's 10 years later and music is creatively thriving more than it ever has. So his only recourse is to claim all music sucks because of illegal downloading. OK, asshole. You'll never be wrong if the only "facts" you can provide for your arguments is your own shitty music taste.

1:46, 1:48, 1:50. are you band members of parquet courts?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 2:14 PM

'Light Up Gold' came out in 2012. #latepass

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 3:03 PM

1:46, 1:48, 1:50. are you band members of parquet courts?

> no just a fan and curious of what it is that people don't like about them and no one has been able to say anything other than they suck or the guy cant play guitar nor will anyone state other bands that do this stuff better. . is that hard to understand ?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 3:28 PM

dave longstreth= good at guitar. these dudes= not good at guitar. regardless of musicianship and technical skill, this song just sucks. It's redundant and unoriginal. listen to how fucking bad it sounds when they 'jam' after they stab their amps and mess around with feedback. this is like a bunch of 9th graders in a basement, in terms what's happening on the guitars and on the bass. now you can do that and be cool and unconventional and all, but this is something totally different. these guys paid big $ to get some big press a year and a half ago, and here they are. so brooklyn goes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 3:46 PM

the only song i like on the record

though it does go on a little too long

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 4:08 PM

My main complaint is that there's not enough reverb on everything.

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 6:31 PM

Timeshares should just take their place on Fallon. Why is this even allowed on national television?

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 7:12 PM

blah blah blah ridgewood queens blah blah blah

that riff is so annoying

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2014 11:12 PM

in a month or two they'll play the same song on letterman, only two minutes shorter 'cause letterman don't allow that jamming shit.

next year they'll put out another album that sounds exactly like the first one.

a year after that they'll put out a third record. this one will have cellos and horns.

a year after that, they'll be back to making lattes or chasing after worthless creative writing degrees.

the world will move on.

bummer, right?

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2014 1:14 AM

Lou is smiling down...

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2014 8:54 AM

My main complaint is there is not enough cowbell on this song.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2014 10:45 AM

>>1:14

sounds about right, just ask the just ask the bassist for 'Clap Your Hands Say Yeah'

actually, ask him for a medium Venti

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2014 12:17 PM

Posted by anonymous | January 14, 2014 8:24 AM

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2014 9:19 AM
