Neil Halstead plays fucking Union Hall when he comes to NYC. Slowdive is going to sell out Webster Hall.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:16 PM

Better than any US festival in the past 5 years....at least

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:20 PM

^ Even HAIM can't sink this lineup.

Posted by J-rod | January 28, 2014 3:24 PM

Dear NYC, a festival should look like THIS!! Didn't GnR headline Gov Ball last year?? HAHAHAHAHAHA

Let's all cry together!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:24 PM

Fests w/ headliners like Outkast and VampWeekend are for tools and amatuers. Kings Of Leon much???

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:32 PM

We need this in AMERICA!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:35 PM

No, we don't. Festivals inherently suck.

Many of these bands have played small venues in the past year.

Just as an example....Television played two awesome shows at Rough Trade, Arcade Fire had the Bushwick Warehouse shows, NMH just played BAM and if you got there even 30 minutes before they went on, you could be in GA and be 10 feet from the stage. Etc. etc. Festivals are for provincial kids to go to because they don't otherwise get to see this stuff. We live in NYC, we pay a ton of tax and way overpay for housing, but we also have access to good music.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:42 PM

you should fix the headline too

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:43 PM

If there's any festival that's ever made me want to go to Europe for, this is it. There's probably no way I can go though. I really hope that Slowdive tours the US. They could make it to the 2nd Sasquatch weekend...?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:45 PM

Has anyone been to this? If I wanted to go what is the lay of the land - fend for hotels? is the fest right in downtown? I'm seriously tempted.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:51 PM

music for wanking poop barrel hipsters

Posted by cuntroller | January 28, 2014 3:55 PM

^ looks like the pizza delivery lunch rush is over

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 3:59 PM

No Outkast - NO GO !

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:02 PM

3:42 - You suck at life.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:06 PM

The New Orleans Jazz Fest is the only major American fest I would go to. Too many dopey bands and people go at the rest of them. No desire to see Muse, Lorde, Haim, MGMT, Beady Eye, Vampire Weekend, Little Dragon, Ellie Goulding(ha ha),Girl Talk or any other crappy, lameass bands that are making the rounds. The best part of going to this one is not the music, it's the people, especially gorgeous Spanish women!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:12 PM

actually festivals do suck. but slowdive does not and they will totally come to nyc. the money will be too good for them to not tour, this could be the last great 90's comeback ever. unless Ride comes around

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:13 PM

3:51
The festival is quite far east, compared to most of the attractions/places to see, at the end of Avenue Diagonal, near the beach/water. If you want to walk to and from the fest, I suggest finding an hotel in the Forum-Poblenou area. It's not that exciting but it's quiet and avoiding the huge crowds fighting for taxis and shuttles is priceless.
The fest is amazing. Even with huge crowds, I was on the rail for half the bands I saw.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:14 PM

^ thanks dude

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:15 PM

3:42 wins the following awards:

Least likely to get a 2nd date
Most unfun person
Most overpaid in taxes and housing
Saddest provincial kid

edit - Least likely to get a 1st date

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:16 PM

Slint??? Really??

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:22 PM

^He also wins the award for being spot on correct

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:22 PM

342/422 Maybe you just suck! Some people enjoy getting a bunch of friends together and checking out some bands they would not usually go see. Plus you can actually meet people from other places and maybe eat some great food. You sound boring and jaded.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:24 PM

342 There's more to life than seeing music in Brooklyn. Admit it, you're a virgin!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:34 PM

DUDES! QOTSA! MLIB!

Do they play lax over there? Do I need to bring my own pinny?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:34 PM

Keep in mind that this festival basically goes form 6pm to 6am everyday, so you don't have to worry about jet lag!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:35 PM

Rachel
fuck yeah

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:36 PM

I kinda hear what 3:42 is saying. This city blows in many ways -- you pay a ton in rent for tiny apartments that are falling apart and nyc taxes are far from nothing.

That said we all put up with it because the city also provides us access to stuff that we value, like music, art, theater, food, etc. Were it not for all those things, this place is pretty worthless.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:40 PM

No OutKast?!?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:45 PM

Was Mangummy wearing one of those Bill Cosby sweaters?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:45 PM

416, 342 here. I never said I was fun. I also hate port-a potties, lines for mediocre food and bros in tank tops (ok, fine I AM unfun). I would also much rather see a band up close in a small venue than have to put up with annoying drunk assholes and (usually) terrible sound.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:48 PM

^ i agree

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 4:49 PM

slowdive will play T5 where you will still get annoying assholes and terrible sound.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:16 PM

I have suffered through bros, terrible food, and shit on the bathroom floor...in small NYC venues.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:22 PM

Good god!! That is an insane lineup. And, all the festivals in the US are excited about Outkast and expecting people to care?!

How out of the fucking loop is that ridiculous industry; and, they wonder why it's in the toilet.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:30 PM

The worst thing about American fests are all of the douchebags who go these days plus very little diversity - 99% white. Kind of boring if you ask me. Also the music continues to get worse every year.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:37 PM

The New Orleans Jazz Fest has no bathroom lines and great food & music. And it's in the most fun city in America!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:44 PM

Hopefully Slowdive will make it to NYC and will play somewhere other than T5. That place is the absolute worst. A couple nights at Webster Hall might work. Would love to see a Marquee Moon gig here too. The others sold out too quick.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 5:56 PM

FUCK THE ARCADE DIRE

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 6:28 PM

Q: Why did Slowdive reunite? A: Same reason Slowdive did anything: because MBV did it first.

Posted by Skippy | January 28, 2014 7:11 PM

3:42 is right. And you know it. There are a tons of lower-caste, dirty Spanish eurotrash that goes to PS.

Posted by One who knows | January 28, 2014 7:18 PM

DREAMS DO COME TRUE

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 7:59 PM

the slowdive reunion is 100% a reason to go to this

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 8:05 PM

Slowdive, MBV wants their sound back! Oh yeah, do you all still look like kids?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 8:21 PM

the iPods

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 8:41 PM

GYBE! and NMH!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 8:47 PM

Slowdive NYC shows will prob happen at Beacon Theater or Hammerstein.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 10:59 PM

Europe is so much better than America. I hate America and being American. I wish I was a European. Asians have good festivals too. I wish I was Asian sometimes. But not Africa. Their festivals suck. Plus, AIDS.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2014 11:33 PM

Europe has been the King of festivals for decades now. Fest-mania just recently hit North America and it will take aeons for it to catch up, quality-wise. In fact, it will probably never happen.

LSD does not have a scent that could alert drug dogs. I mean, you know you want to fly internationally with drugs, amiright? Can't test your molly when Spanish bro's be selling you drugs in the line to the porta-potty.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2014 12:13 AM

First, let me say that I am a New Yorker, but have been to this festival twice and it is THE BEST. No contest with any other fest I've ever attended. And you don't even have to sleep in a fucking tent.

However, the reason this fest gets such great bookings and others like Governor's Ball and the like do not is simple, but perhaps not obvious. These fests book these bands and then prohibit them from performing elsewhere in Barcelona (or sometimes even Spain altogether) for the rest of the year.

What this means is that A) if you want to see bands of this calibre and you live in Spain, you HAVE to go to this fest. Also, it means that the shows that actually get to take place in BCN for the rest of the year often only draw smaller bands, as any big band would want to get on this bill, clearly.

It's not the end of the world, but it explains why bands are less likely to commit to such a deal in markets like NYC, because they'd make a ton more money selling out their own shows, rather than be on a big bill like this.

With all that said, I'm buying a fucking plane ticket asap!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2014 12:14 AM

1133 The women are way cooler, that's for sure. They're not addicted to their cell phones and tend to watch their weight better. I gave up on American women years ago. Smartest thing I've ever done!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2014 12:14 AM

^plus, Euro bitches don't get all uppity when you smack them around a little. they take it like men.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2014 12:16 AM

Yeah, that's what I like in a woman: being more like a man.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2014 1:09 AM

!059 Are you on drugs? "Slowdive NYC shows will prob happen at Beacon Theater or Hammerstein"? More like Irving Plaza or Bowery Ballroom. Maybe Webster Hall is they put out a decent new album.
