Merge-signed singer/songwriter Richard Buckner released Surrounded last fall, and if you haven't heard it you can stream it over at the label. He's currently on a "Living Room" tour of the West Coast:

January 23rd through February 9th, I'll be foraging along the West Coast with an acoustic guitar and dropping in on suspecting listeners for a series of Living Room shows. The cities are public domain but the addresses are privy to those obey "add to cart". The audiences are limited to 50 per show, so the chances you'll run into an ex or estranged family member are fairly low. I'll simply ring a doorbell, find a spot in the room where I won't knock over a lamp with my guitar neck, make a blanket-apology ahead of time, just in case, then traipse through a catalog of the chorusless. The shows will be in different homes each evening, so check ahead for individual rules on snuggies. Audience members that correctly guess the daily rate on my rental car will receive a compliment on their hair style.
If you're on the West Coast and want to attend one of these living room shows, more info is at Buckner's website.

After that tour wraps up, Buckner has a couple NY-area shows on his schedule. He'll play Union Hall on March 6 and tickets to that show are on sale now. He'll also play BSP in Kingston, NY on March 22 with Anders Parker on the bill as well. Tickets for that show are also on sale.

Speaking of, Anders Parker is playing Brooklyn later this month at Union Pool on January 31 opening for JBM. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Not for me, but this at least is a more reasonable way to do a "house show." Not to knock being DIY and all that shit, but if you're going to throw a show, at least make it equal opportunity for anyone to come from wherever. Most house shows are available only to the people throwing it, their friends and the bands they invite, and that reeks of exclusivity and elitism.

Yikes. He's clearly been going to the same gym as Robert Smith and W. Axl Rose.

30 years from now, you guys will 'discover' buckner and realize what a genius he truly is.

if all you can do is play living rooms, you might as well give up.

Holy crap! That's what he looks like? I pictured a tall, skinny guy with a beard and short grey hair.

Get off Buckner's dick, he is the NICEST guy and a real talent.

only Merge act worth even a fractional shit, though that someone who's 'supposed' to be as intelligent as Mac is too fucking stupid to recognize his extreme non-talent and banality is, I suppose, truly remarkable.

These guys have gone through so many mutations of powerful music making.

Richard's electric live shows always encapsulated me because of his use of effects pedals, reverb and what have you. And then you see him like this and it's just pure clarity.
