Sylvan Esso

Sylvan Esso, aka the folky/electronic collaboration between Mountain Man's Amelia Meath and Megafaun's Nick Sanborn, have signed with Partisan Records and will release their debut album in May. Before that, the duo will release a 12" single on March 25 and you can stream the A-side, "Coffee," below.

You can hear more of Sylvan Esso when they head out on a short tour next week that hits NYC on Thursday, January 30 at Rough Trade with openers ARP and Alvvays. This show will be the first for Rough Trade since having to shut down in December due to sound/noise issues. Tickets are still available.

They'll also be in Austin for SXSW. Updated dates are listed, along with the new single stream, below...

So here’s my question...What I love about Sylvan Esso is that the beat pocket is amazing - so gushy - but you can tell that in the first few bars it’s pushing JUST A LITTLE bit - it’s not gush, it’s just a little fast, out of tempo with her vocal loop - but sooner or later it all drops / quantizes together. Does anyone know if LIVE software has a safety net o quantize the loops (which might alter the pitch a little? Or drop a frame to maintain the pitch but speed it up just a smirdge? Sorry, I just love them so much and this is one of the reasons - because the pocket is sublime which is unusual for this type of music.
