Versus at Chickfactor 20 (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)

The Philippines are still recovering from devastating Typhoon Haiyan (aka Yolanda) which hit the country back in November. There have been a few benefits here in NYC -- most notably David Byrne's staging of Here Lies Love at Terminal 5 -- but this Saturday (1/11) there's one at Shea Stadium featuring bands with ties to the Philippines. Headliners are indie rock vets Versus (who haven't had a NYC show in a good while), and also features pow wow!, Crazy Pills, Quiet Loudly, The Planes, and Let's Be Loveless. Tickets are $10 at the door and all proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Typhoon Relief Effort.

Flyer for the benefit below...

Richard is gettin' old, huh?

I feel that these bands are so awfully bland that they are doing a disservice to the philippines by using this tragedy to promote their midwestern upper class white core.

Yes, 2:56. No one is more more white than Versus.

Hopefully, most of the commenters on this thread will one day be disaster victims as well.

Walter you are the epitome of upper class white core. Sitting behind your computer probably living off your parents' money, spending your free time professionally trolling brooklynvegan with nothing good to offer the world, let alone people who are in need of it.

Go fuck yourself shit-head.

I don't like these bands so I refuse to go. I also convinced my friends not to attend even though they really wanted to.

Are those things on the flyer (or whatever the heck that is) supposed to be dead people? Not into that if they are.

Why didn't any decent bands come out for the Philippines? I support the Red Cross whole heartedly but I don't want to hear indie bros whine about their girlfriends for three hours.

This show SUCKED!!!

This show was really good, we got into some of the newer bands on the bill too. (Versus was why we went, they were great.) Look at all the negativity from some of you. Your loss. I feel bad for bands these days, having to deal with all this hate.

This is the strongest typhoon that i've experienced in my whole life, months after haiyan i refused to watch tv news because this experience will always make me cry, me and my family survived because we are 3km away from the coast, for 3 days i roamed the cityof tacloban seeing dead bodies, it was do hard for me to see all that was happening, even the funeral embalmer cried because there was such many dead bodies that he cannot accomodate them all.. very very sad that this happened to my hometown. But i believe that the people of tacloban and leyte can revive our hometown to its former glory..

All this stuff needs to be re-mastered.
