Cassie Ramone w/ The Babies @ Shubas Chicago, 2012 (more by Stan Golovchuk)IMAGE

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, John Moloney & others @ The Stone
Sonic Youth/Chelsea Light Moving guitar destroyer Thurston Moore continues his residency at The Stone tonight. The 8 PM show is with his Sonic Youth bandmate Lee Ranaldo and his Chelsea Light Moving/Caught On Tape bandmate John Moloney. Then for the 10 PM show, Moloney hangs around and he and Thurston are joined by Gene Moore and Daniel Carter.

Gospels, Rumors, Bent Shapes @ Glasslands
If you're going to this show, openers Bent Shapes are worth getting there early for with their spunky, angsty take on indiepop.

Magic Man, The Novel Ideas, Photocomfort, Jarod Dickerson @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Brooklyn Night Bazaar offers weekends of local artisan shopping, gourmet eats, beer and wine, ping pong, black light minigolf and music all under one Greenpoint roof. Tonight's show is headlined by Boston synthpop outfit Magic Man.

Lost Boy?, Slonk Donkerson, The Denzels, Breakfast In Fur @ Mercury Lounge
Miss the days of catchy '90s alt-pop? Tonight's line-up at Mercury Lounge features a full roster of local bands who do too.

Carousel, Mirror Queen, Township, Eidetic Seeing @ Acheron
This show is presented by psych label Tee Pee and features two of its more '70s-riff-loving acts -- Pittsburgh's Carousel and Brooklyn quartet Mirror Queen.

Cassie Ramone, Colleen Green, Virginia Trance, Juniper Rising, Xray Eyeballs @ Death by Audio
This very solid bill features many local bands but don't miss LA's Colleen Green who makes charming, Ramones-influenced low-fi pop.

Kim Ann Foxman, Archie Pelago, Nooka Jones @ Glasslands
You may know Kim Ann Foxman as a Hercules and Love Affair collaborator, and tonight she'll keep Glasslands dancing at this DJ night which also includes Archie Pelago and Nooka Jones.

Magik Markers, Degreaser, Lushes @ Union Pool
Noise rock trio Magik Markers returned in 2013 with their first album since 2009, and tonight they celebrate the album with a genre-appropriate bill of Degreaser and Lushes.

Darlene Love @ BB King's
Still in the holiday spirit? Darlene Love does her last of three holiday shows at BB King's tonight, and you can count on her to bring plenty of Christmas/seasonal hits.

Christian metal vets Stryper have postponed their show at Stage 48 due to weather.

If you like visiting the homes of the formerly high and mighty, or have a passion for museums, this film ought to satisfy. It's really a virtual tour of the Hermitage Museum (the former Winter Palace) in St Petersburg but with 2800 actors and extras in full costume to add a little verisimilitude to the occasion. (If you want to repeat the experience for free visit the Hermitages' brilliant web site). I can believe that the whole 90 minutes was filmed in one take (at the third attempt) but I was staggered that the museum authorities allowed them to do it. Perhaps the clincher was to include a role for the present museum director who is seen with some of his predecessors fretting over the state of the Tsar's throne's upholstery.

CASSIE RAMONE SUX, another talentless hack in this city getting by on grade b fame from 5 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 11:01 AM

weak night

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 11:04 AM

I don't think that 10:17 was concerned with her musical vision or vocabulary 11:01. Out on a limb here, but I think that he (or she?) was commenting about other of her assets.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 11:07 AM

if she just didn't have that damn cassette tape tattoo, which is painfully ugly to look at.

> "another talentless hack in this city getting by on grade b fame from 5 years ago."

That's an interesting comment, and it's an angle I've never really spent much time looking at, but I think they might have a point. Think about the music acts in the city in the '70s and '80s that were new on the scene. Everyone from Television, Talking Heads, Suicide and Blondie to John Zorn, Steve Reich, Sonic Youth and far too many to write here. They were all unique in their vision and breaking down walls. Who is doing that today? It's so much more about how you look and who is hip and hanging out at Pianos and Cake Shop. Sadly. At least places like Zorn's Stone and some smaller venues in Brooklyn are allowing bands to come into their own. But acts like Vivian Girls, and all the bands that splintered off of them and in that scene, are hacks at best who craft an image that will be hip for a period of time.

is thurston moore playing every day until the end of time?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 12:44 PM

a bunch of BV hipsters (most likely in shitty bands that even their parents don't listen to) hating on a girl with a very modest amount of success? no, couldn't be...

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 12:56 PM

I don't see how anyone can really hate on the Babies. That's a pretty solid band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 1:49 PM

Cassie Ramone is kinda hot. She has these bags under eyes all the time. They are cute and she has a husky voice and smooth skin.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 2:36 PM

1:49 you now how BV readers are, purists and all that. I think that many of us can't get behind the band with any replacement for the great John Waite (missin you, missin you)

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 2:44 PM

11:01 : Cassie has clearly done something right in the past five years; can you claim the same for yourself? And you know she's HOT. She can fart into my falafel sandwich tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 3:35 PM

LOL @ bro reporting on Cassie's "soft skin", as if he has empirical evidence

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 3:41 PM

Vivian Girls are/were one of the worst bands to come out of NY in the past 10 years. Songwriting that lazy should be a jailable offense.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 3:42 PM

I'm still wondering why 4:58am commented with the synopsis for russian ark..BV trolls be gettin' mad deep in this biiiiitch....

also, bring back the old events calendar!!! i hate shuffling through event listings for gallagher and big apple circle presents just to (unsuccessfully) see who's playing at shea.

Posted by micpistol | January 4, 2014 4:24 PM

I see CR around Graham Ave. all the time. She seems like a nice girl, and is somewhat pretty, but she badly needs to take beter care of herself. She needs vegtables, shampoo, a gym membership etc.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 5:51 PM

🙀🙏💖

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 6:03 PM

Kickball Katy moved to LA and is now taking improv comedy classes. She wants to become an actress. She does some music stuff but is pushing her agent (yes, she has one) to get her commercials and bit roles on sitcoms.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 6:09 PM

^^ Are you being serious? Do you have a link that will prove this? I'm dumbfounded. She was always the hot one. Dem Boobs.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 6:56 PM

vivian girls are okay... but that babies album was great.

""1:49 you now how BV readers are, purists and all that. I think that many of us can't get behind the band with any replacement for the great John Waite (missin you, missin you)"

Bahahahaha. #COTD You, dear Sir/Madam, win the internets for the day.

@ 11:01 : Cassie has clearly done something right in the past five years; can you claim the same for yourself? And you know she's HOT. She can fart into my falafel sandwich tonight.

I am of greater fame than the vivian girls will be. Matt from Japanther here.

Cassie has clearly done something right in the past five years LOL

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 7:05 PM

I wonder if Thurston will go to Union Pool after his Stone set and hookup with the girl from Majik Mrkers, only this time not ruining his marriage...?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 7:08 PM

Cassie is hot as fuck. Well OK maybe not quite that hot, but she's pretty freaking hot. Not hot like that chick in Austra hot, maybe a notch below. OK, not quite KBK hot. OK, Cassie's not really hot per se, but more hot with a guitar. OK, I'll give you that she would be hot if she played the guitar better. Alright, you got me.

^ I just realized how easy it is to objectify a person on the internet. Cassie is a person, she's got feelings, probably does eat vegetables occasionally, and from what i've heard she can play the guitar just fine. I am sure that her skin is probably soft and sexy to touch if she permits you to do so. i'm sorry I made those awful judgements about you before Cassie. Truce? Can I buy you dinner some time? Oh, you'll probably never see this. Well, we'll always have Saturday night December 4th 2014 at 7:23

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 7:24 PM

Stong dude, can't you see i'm trying to have a conversation with Cassie here? Not cool. Go post your ASCII penis over in one of the metal threads, they'll be your friend.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 7:27 PM

at first the Vivian girls were not very good, but they definitely got better once they learned how to play their instruments. I saw them a couple of times from late 2009 thru the end and they were pretty damn good.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 8:01 PM

Cassie is not hot.

Go see Degreaser at Union Pool.

Brooklyn used to be such a sick-ass spot to chill. Now it's all about three hour brunches, condos, and seeing how many ecstasy pills you can stick up your butt. It's like Patrick Bateman over there. What gives?

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2014 10:07 PM

The last Vivian Girls record sounded like they learned how to play and write songs, but apparently that was not what their audience cared about.
