Power Trip at Power of the RIff East 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Power Trip

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Power Trip, Suburban Scum, White Widows Pact, Manipulate @ Saint Vitus
Power Trip master a mix of brutal hardcore and thrash riffs/solos that recall the classics but never make Power Trip sound like a retro band. Of course with music like this though, the live show is really where it's at, so now's your chance.

London Grammar, Wilsen @ Baby's All Right
UK synthpop trio London Grammar first caught our ears as one of the contributors to the Disclosure album, but they've since released their own LP as well. Tonight's their first of two sold-out intimate NYC shows.

Gangstagrass, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Smif N Wessun with The Judah Tribe Reggae Band & Jahdan Blakkamoore @ Bowery Ballroom
It's the release party for Brooklyn bluegrass-hip-hop project (seriously) Gangstagrass, but we also think it's worth showing up early because this bill has two local hip hop veterans, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) and Smif N Wessun.

Endless Boogie, Syphilitic Lust, Hans Chew @ Union Pool
Jammy Brooklyn rockers Endless Boogie continue their Union Pool residency tonight with local metal band Syphilitic Lust and D. Charles Speer & the Helix member Hans Chew, who has opened for the Boogie before. Last week Stephen Malkmus showed up to play with the band -- you never know who might stop by.

Alejandro Escovedo, Joe Ely @ City Winery
Two progressive country vets share the bill for what should be a terrific night of rootsy rock.

Boy Toy, Bennio Qwerty, Sea Monsters, Infinity Girl @ The Gutter
Fuzzy pop act Boytoy and hard-riff trio Bennio Qwerty highlight this show that happens in the back room of this vintagey-looking Williamsburg bowling alley.

Big Terrific @ Cameo
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg's Lovin' Cup. No word on who's playing tonight, but you can check Max's Twitter.

"... a mix of brutal hardcore and thrash riffs/solos that recall the classics..." + Old Navy = CARGO SHORTS

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2014 9:58 AM

My problem with Old Navy cargo shorts is that I can only fit 2 Iron Maiden cassettes in each pocket, so which ones do I leave at home? Always a dilemma.

Cargo shorts are a great place to stash the leather stud fingerless gloves and hair gel for when my shift at SVGH is over

Love London Grammar! Wish I could go to the show. Guess I'll just have to keep listening to their recorded stuff for now...

I got to see them live a few years back. It was pretty cool, even after all the years that passed since this track came along. They're performing in May (I think) with Mobb Deep, if I'm not mistaken.
