Fucked Up @ Governors Ball 2013 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)
Fucked up

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Fucked Up, DIIV, White Lung, Guardian Alien, LODRO @ 285 Kent
Tonight is the very last show at Brooklyn DIY venue 285 Kent before it closes, and they've got one helluva lineup for it. Things kick off with local dark rockers LODRO and local experimentalists Guardian Alien (whose lineup includes ex-Liturgy drummer Greg Fox). Then it's the ambitious yet ferocious punk of Vancouver's White Lung, Brooklyn's DIIV who always put on enjoyable shows, and the super-fun hardcore band Fucked Up whose Damien Abraham is sure to end up in as many corners of 285 Kent that his mic cable will reach.

Disclosure, Vic Mensa, Bishop Nehru, Samo Sound Boy @ Terminal 5
In a year where Daft Punk made a huge comeback, Disclosure were still dance duo of 2013 thanks to a killer album jam-packed with hits that translate just as well to the dancefloor. Needless to say, these three nights at Terminal 5 will be a killer time.

Pixies, Asphalt Orchestra @ Capitol Theatre
Though the Pixies have admitted you can never truly replace Kim Deal, the band are moving on and continuing to tour and release music without her. Tonight they bring their tour (with current bassist Paz Lechantin of A Perfect Circle/Zwan/Entrance Band) to the Capitol Theatre for their first of two NYC-area shows this week. Opening is Asphalt Orchestra, who will do marching band covers of Pixies songs.

Self Defense Family, Pity Sex, Ovlov, Loss Leader, Deep Pockets @ Santos Party House
Self Defense Family (fka End of a Year) just released their first album under their new name, Try Me (via Deathwish), which combines passionate, spoken-word-meets-yelling vocals with indie rock-leaning post-hardcore. And Pity Sex offer a great mix of the current wave of emo with poppy shoegaze more akin to The Pains of Being Pure at Heart than The World Is A Beautiful Place. Together that makes for an excellent double bill.

Bomb the Music Industry!, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Cheap Girls @ Warsaw
Tonight's the last-ever show for Bomb the Music Industry! Sold out, but if you already have tickets, we recommend getting there early for Michigan power poppers Cheap Girls.

Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven @ Highline Ballroom
David Lowery spent the '80s in snarky multi-culti folk group Camper Van Beethoven and transitioned into '90s rock with Cracker. You get both sides tonight

Advaeta, Sediment Club, New England Patriots, Palberta @ Death by Audio
Very noisy Rhode Island band Sediment Club and Boston's New England Patriots are on tour together and stop at DbA tonight.

Talib Kweli @ SOB's
It's the second-annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at SOB's, headlined by veteran Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli.

Dead Leaf Echo, Tiers, Gold @ Mercury Lounge
Feeling dark and hazy? Revel in it with shoegazy Dead Leaf Echo and coldwavers Tiers who share your gloomy worldview.

Royal Bangs, Bad Suns, Cosmonaut @ Baby's All Right
Knoxville, TN riff rockers Royal Bangs have been kicking around for nearly a decade and last year released their fourth album, Brass, which was produced by Black Keys' Patrick Carney.

Jay Z @ Nassau Coliseum
Jay Z recently did two nights at Barclays Center, and tonight he's just a bit outside of home for this Nassau Coliseum show.

Comedy Night @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal's very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory's front bar. Get there early.

As you can see in the photo above, it is evident that the singer to Fucked up is significantly slimmer then in previous years... It has also been noted that he has been spotted at Mamouns frequently... Is there a correlation to these to situations??? Is this yet another testament to the energy giving Phyto-Nutrients locked within the Chickpea?

Look at the horrible conditions that factory bred punks are being kept in these days! Only free range punkers for me.

Grimes queefed in 285 Kent & all the ASAPs and $$$lils ran to sniff it, so Pitchfork thinks they should memorialize it like its CBGB or something. What a joke!

Is this the hipster version of Iggy Pop?

FYI Deafheaven went on at 245 last night. 285 was plagued with technical difficulties after novellers amateur hour.

This is one of the best songs that I have heard in a long time. Dam I think I am in heaven whenever I hear this. Its bands like this that should be played not this bull shit that seems to be in now. I just ordered this CD off of Ebay yesterday. Shogaze/ambient for ever. My bloody Valentine would be proud and jelouse at the same time. Please come to Chicago and keep making more kick ass music. Buitiful.
