Waxahatchee at Pitchfork Festival 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Cities Aviv, Maria Minerva, Sadaf H. Nava @ Baby's All Right
285 Kent is now officially closed, but two of its regulars, rapper Cities Aviv and electronic pop artist Maria Minerva, are teaming up for a show at Baby's tonight which will maybe preserve some of that 285 spirit.

Waxahatchee, All Dogs, Cayetana @ Mercury Lounge
It's an incredible triple bill at Mercury Lounge tonight with Waxahatchee, whose singer-songwriter-ish tunes made up one of our favorite albums of 2013 and likeminded (but a bit punkier) indie rock from All Dogs and Cayetana. They do it again at Glasslands on Thursday, and both shows are sold out.

Pixies, FIDLAR, Asphalt Orchestra @ NJPAC
It's the second NYC-area night of Pixies (with current bassist Paz Lenchatin) this week. Opening is Asphalt Orchestra, who do marching band versions of Pixies songs and skate punk brats FIDLAR.

UPDATE: Pixies is rescheduled for next week.

Pretty & Nice, Poor Demon (Secret Guest), Honey Wild, Yellerkin, The Roads @ Glasslands
Boston's Pretty & Nice make the kind of nervy powerpop you used to get in 1979 when XTC and Joe Jackson bouncing around. Tonight they play as a three-piece. Anybody know who "Poor Demon" are actually?

Prince Rupert's Drops, Hairy Sands, Jonas Reinhardt @ Union Pool
Fans of heavy psych will dig this line-up featuring the paisley sounds of PRD, the weird noise of Hairy Sands and Kranky-signed Jonas Reinhardt.

Johnny Winter, JW Jones @ BB King's
Johnny Winter is in the midst of his winter (get it?) residency at BB King's, and tonight's the second of three shows, the third being on 2/23. Expect over 4 decades of blues rock riffs.

Marc Ribot, Chris Eldridge @ Merkin Concert Hall (NY Guitar Fest)
NY Guitar Fest continues with guitar great Marc Ribot (collaborator of Tom Waits, John Zorn, etc) teaming up with Chris Eldridge (of Punch Brothers) to perform live scores to silent films tonight.

Brooklyn Transcore Punk Island Stage Benefit @ Grand Victory
Tonight Grand Victory hosts a benefit for the Transcore stage of Punk Island (which Aye Nako have played) with Little Waist, Penguin, Dirty Circle, and The Whores.

Marsha Ambrosius, Benja @ SOB's
R&B/soul singer Marsha Ambrosius, formerly of Floetry and a recent collaborator of Robert Glasper and Talib Kweli, is releasing a new solo album, Friends and Lovers, and this week she celebrates with a two-night release party at SOB's, this being night 2.

Mainland, The Teen Age, Cosmonaut, Leopold And His Fiction @ Pianos
Straight-up guitar pop is alive and well and on stage at Pianos tonight. Check out a track from Mainland's upcoming Shiner EP below.

Shark?, Las Rosas, White Gold, Syd Sair @ Shea Stadium
Tonight's show at Shea includes quality local bands Shark? and Las Rosas, plus Atlanta's White Gold.

What is that, an adder emerging from a Cheap Trick egg and promptly throwing up? Is that some kind of code for rejection of Flyoveria, USA? Kind of a new "The Big Country"?

I think it's a hat used in ceremonies honoring the sacred chickpea while taking a hatchet to the bangs.

Well at least it's not a tattoo of an ice cream soda or a cassette tape, yumpin yiminny

It looks as if she went to prison just long enough to get a tattoo. I hope the needles were clean.

Gotta love this time of year, certainly because all the annoying non-NYers that come out during the holidays get miserably forced inside. Good deal as always.

it's an artist portrayal of an amoeba extracted from her yuckmouth after an excellent hummus buffet

to all you harsh bv commenters, hey she's no good, but at least y'all could encourage her to do better perhaps by upping her chickpea intake

I love it when someone posts criticism of unfunny comments in a wholly unfunny manner. I actually laugh at these comments due to the unintended irony. You could say the joke's on them!

lost my face in pain killer soak...but honest it was sold by the dream of who I was born of and too whom I promised a life of my own....segregating a flaw of delusion and forced fed to my cancer mass...looking in on my bodies to make sure I have infected them all...cancer cured sliding into place...reading the time and place from the photo's of the lost, devoured for the sake of the hounds still not threatened into shape by the gravity of this place...Broken bones and laughing in the face of concern now taking shape within the stakes he made...roulette and gamble the tides away as yet another saving grace plants a wing on the stuttering break....the rest of the rest that took the place, swimming in the mess thirsty and leery...beyond this life he knows it's the all forgiving dream to set the pace for the race ahead, backwards and beyond your saturation....evolved in divergent merging with the only one we could be...beyond the severed lives and brothels of Shadow harlots we let break into the fringe/
