FIDLAR at Bowery Ballroom in 2013 (more by Harriet Roberts)
FIDLAR

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Neutral Milk Hotel, Elf Power @ Webster Hall
After releasing one of the most classic indie albums of all time with In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, Neutral Milk Hotel pretty much disappeared with frontman Jeff Mangum choosing to remain mostly out of the public eye. A few years ago, Mangum began touring again, but it wasn't until late 2013 that Neutral Milk Hotel returned to the road. Their reunion tour finally comes to NYC this week and this is the fourth of five shows here.

Young Widows, Phantom Halo Band @ Saint Vitus
Though Young Widows have only been around since 2006 and only have three LPs under their belts, they already feel like something of an institution -- noisy rock music is becoming increasingly popular, and their ventures into the field have been as strong as anyone's. This is the second of the band's two-night stand at Vitus where they'll be playing their excellent second album, Old Wounds, in its entirety.

FIDLAR, Big Ups, Amanda X @ Baby's All Right
Cheap beer-fueled skate punk brats FIDLAR team up with local post-hardcore ragers Big Ups and punky Philly trio Amanda X for what should be a pretty fun show tonight.

Canadian Rifle, Crow Bait, The Pity Party, Outta Gas @ Death By Audio
Chicago punks Canadian Rifle are in town for this show which has great, likeminded support from Crow Bait (mems. Iron Chic), The Pity Party (ex-The Measure [sa]) and Outta Gas.

Reverend Horton Heat, The Les Paul Trio, Anton Fig @ Iridium
In the world of surf-rock, the Rev is a lengend, bringing a crazed twang to his raucous instrumentals and psychobilly freakouts.

Waka Flocka Flame @ B.B. King's
Go hard in da paint with Waka Flocka at BB King's tonight.

Bella Union US launch party @ The Bedford
Bella Union up to this point has been a UK label but has just set up a US outpost that will be the official American home for Snowbird, I Break Horses, Lanterns on the Lake and more. Tonight's the launch party for their new US branch and will have label head (and former Cocteau Twins bassist) Simon Raymonde DJing.

Gramatik, Exmag, Branx, Gibbz @ Output
Dance producer Gramatik just played Best Buy Theater with TOKiMONSTA, and tonight he's at the more genre-specific club Output.

Night Train w/ guest host Sheng Wang @ Littlefield
Normally Wyatt Cenac hosts this weekly comedy show, but tonight Sheng Wang is taking over, and this week's guest include Hari Kondabolu, Nick Turner, Jim Tews, Adam Lowitt, Subhah Agarwal, and Chris Lamberth.

More Neutral Milk Hotel? When will it stop?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 10:18 AM

10:18's life is so shitty that he cares a lot about a band playing multiple shows in NY.

How did you dopes forget to mention Billy Joel? Before you snarky cunt rags feed on this; one of the greatest songwriters of all time with a vast catalog that is actually worth listening to.

Neutral Milk Hotel- one album and you guys are still jerking them off.

Old people can't accept that the world has changed while they stay the same

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:28 PM

Old people use antiquated phrases and wonder why they elicit such snickering

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:30 PM

Old people go to Chilli's and order the same thing every time

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:31 PM

Billy Joel is so ice picky.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:35 PM

I'm in my 30's and am seeing Billy Joel tonight. I occasionally go to chili's but always order something different.

Billy Joel > NMH

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:55 PM

Billy Joel sucks. Lame, middle of the road and the most boring audience of A*hole whitebread suburbanites you will see anywhere outside of a Bon Jovi show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:58 PM

He did indeed write some good songs but that was a VERY LONG time ago and he's been coasting on them for decades.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 12:59 PM

Believe it or not...chili's 30 something guy here. I am seeing Billy at MSG tonight..last show I saw was NMH at Loew's in Jersey City.

River of Dreams=In an Aeroplane Over The Sea

:)

Now remember old entitled white people, curbside service keeps you pretty well cloistered from the riff raff around the Garden, but there are still opportunities for you to give some of your suburban money to the people of color that provide you with vital in-show services. Just remember how hard it could be to get those drunk lawyers and hedge fund managers out of your seats by yourself without the help of that kind man with the blue vest. Always tip, people. Always tip.

I'd rather eat a Blooming Onion then listen to Billy Joel...

^How bout the chips and salsa...it is pretty good at chili's!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2014 2:21 PM

NMH, Billy Joel ....

Communists and corporate attorneys all over the tri-state area have been looking forward to this night for a coo... er, a long time

Great album but they'll all be dead before age 40.

Loving the deep grainy sound in that bass, with the sub behind it <3
