Dave Klein w/ Black Flag at Grand Victory, 2013 (more by PSquared)

Remember how last time we mentioned the ongoing Black Flag debacle, we speculated that the next piece of related news would be just as cringe-inducingly lame? Well, I'm not sure if this is quite as pathetic as the band apologizing for being such a catastrophe in 2013, but it's pretty damn bad: bassist Dave Klein (also of Screeching Weasel) apparently left the band as early as December of last year...and forgot to tell anybody. Yup.

Klein posted the following on his Facebook after the aforementioned BF apology in Rolling Stone:

"To avoid more PMs after today's news out of the Black Flag Official camp... I guess I should OFFICIALLY (puns!) say that I'm no longer playing with BF. I suppose the following post from last month wasn't exactly clear. Now go listen to They Stay Dead and Screeching Weasel. See ya soon at a show near you!"
The "following post" Klein refers to is a Dying Scene post, dated December 2, about how he's joined the Oklahoma-based punk band They Stay Dead. It makes only passing mention of his collaboration with Black Flag and says nothing about his status with the band.

So yeah, Black Flag's bassist quit the band and didn't think it was a big enough deal to bother letting the press know. Alternately, it's possible that Klein did tell Dying Scene that he was out of BF, and they deemed that fact insufficiently interesting to include in the post. Either way, that's pretty dark.

God forbid someone quit an embarrassing version of a band without alerting the press.

As Greg Ginn keeps on refreshing his inbox hoping to receive an official email from Klein...

It sounds like an article from the Onion.

Unlike Ginn, Ben Weasel is a total gentleman, I'm sure he'll have no problems touring with that dependable, level-headed man.

Did you ever imagine a world where Screeching Weasel would be a step up from Black Flag?

Is this bassist drawn to playing with shitheads? Jumping from Ben Weasel to Greg Ginn is sociopath behavior.

Yeah, 1985 called...

This is not half as embarrassing as the time I forgot to tell the Dead Kennedy's that I was their new lead singer.

WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TEACH THE DRUMMER THE SONGS?

Posted by Anonymous | February 4, 2014 1:23 PM

I was shouting "PLAY ONE THE DRUMMER KNOWS" the entire show. They never did.

now that's how you quit a band

I saw them live as well. The drummer could not keep up. No one in the band seemed to give a shit whatsoever and Ginn just played with a scowl on his face not looking at the other band members.A very depressing spectacle.

At least they were able to faithfully capture the live experience on cd.

*** Do you know the origin of Gregg Ginn's name? Spell it backwards to reveal...

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2014 1:42 AM

1:42 - Fuck, I never noticed that.

Ron has been singing 60-70 minutes a day, five day a week, plus working out - he is full time and all over that!
