Eyehategod

Southern sludge trope-makers Eyehategod put out their last record in 2000 -- 14 years ago. Since then, the band has endured a seemingly endless string of setbacks: Hurricane Katrina, various band member incarcerations, and the passing of founding drummer Joey LaCaze. All things considered, it's not a huge surprise that they've been unable to produce a full album of recorded material over that stretch (though a couple of new songs have emerged).

It appears, however, that Eyehategod have finally broken their dry spell. EHG vocalist Mike Williams announced via his Facebook that the band have a finished fifth album in hand:

EYEHATEGOD master tapes are in our hands RIGHT NOW!!! Artwork getting close to be being done as well..!!! Gonna be KKKKIIIILLERRR.. Got some surprises up our sleeve too...! SOUNDS and LOOKS INSANE!!!
It's also worth noting that 'master tapes' implied that the band is sticking with analog tech for this one -- no surprise there, but one wonders what other "surprises up our sleeve" this stylistically consistent band has in store.

Stream "New Orleans is the New Vietnam," one of the few new EHG songs to emerge thus far (and presumably a demo version of a song from the upcoming LP?), below...

Hell yeah! Better than Lady Lamb, The iPods, & Speedy Ortiz all put together.

Not that it really matters in the context of this post, but "Master Tapes" can be a figure of speech. Also sometimes you record digitally and then transfer to tape after the fact. All that said, they very well may have recorded the whole thing on analog gear. (What the hell do i know). The analog vs digital debate is mostly hipster masturbation. Most normal people (who aren't sound engineers) can't tell the difference. We WANT to believe that analog sounds better because it fits into the simplistic worldview that "artisanal, hand-made" things are better and more "real."

Actually @4:25, NOBODY IS BETTER THAN LADY LAMB. So just go fuck off and listen to your sausage music alone.

lady lamb and eyehategod are both great, but not arctic monkeys great

Eyehategod really needs the promotional muscle of a Carpark Records to make this album succeed.

I'll believe this when I see it in my hands. They've had 14 years to follow up Southern Discomfort...14 years.

^^ You are kinda stupid for thinking junkies can be responsible enough to actually do work.
